Greg D's Parting Words

Now I'd like to close out the contest with some words from our Yelp friend Greg D. He wrote a cool review of Good Bull Hunting and this contest. He also sent me a message on Yelp after I posted my reaction to the review, and I want to share it here to clear the air and because it wouldn't feel right to leave Greg D. out of this final post.

Cool. Nice response as well.

Personally I didn't name you (cup) as being editorial negligent. But your publication is.

The very basis of the comparisons of different type of foods and allowing non qualified voters is something the community should be aware of if reading your for profit blog like trolling.

You yourself have never eaten at 100% of the places I compared so who are you to even set up voting by non qualified and non verified people to tell you something about something you know nothing of yourself?

Look yourself in the mirror. Do you live in Aggieland and have you eaten at all restaurants?

What I said was honest and I might even do a follow up Yelp review.

(Sitting here scratching my chin and wondering....)

Thanks for being an open minded thinker. This is fun and funny. ;)

Greg

We have arrived. Flavorful Four voting is underway and the reputation of Bryan-College Station's food scene is in your hands. Why are you trembling? Congratulations to our last four eateries standing who have enjoyed a lot of my own money over the years: Layne's Chicken Fingers, Fargo's Pit BBQ, Fuego Tortilla Grill, and Whataburger.

Many of you have been with us on this Munch Madness journey from the beginning. I wanted to reward you for your dedication, so I reached out to Greg D. via Yelp messaging to ask him to break down our Flavorful Four. He didn't do that. Instead, to our delight, Greg D. was "First-to-Review" Good Bull Hunting on Yelp and made a mockery of Munch Madness. You can read his review by clicking here, but I'll also reproduce it below.

First, Greg D. gave us a street address of 275 Joe Routt Blvd. which is a CHASE bank branch as far as I can tell. I'm sure there's a message behind that.

Greg D. awarded us 4 stars which seems pretty good.

Good Bull Hunting is mass media (not in print and yes this is a Yelp category) with a presence in Aggieland which is currently focusing on a completely pointless non qualified and apparently random survey of restaurants. Why? Something to fill space?

At least they mentioned me.

Their Munch Madness fails to even scratch the surface of meaning anything about Aggieland food. The key players are missing. It's like football before Johnny Manzeil and just before he slinked off into being a non played and benched sheepish dick. Seen anyone with a #2 shirt lately?

Where is Mickey's Sliders on the list? That's a College Station original with the best chicken sandwich that slaughters Chick -Fil- A and I've never found anything like it nationwide.

Where is Republic Steak House? Where President Bush (41) eats? The exclusion of such on any voting list is such a blatant error that alone negates any reason for a survey to begin with.

Let's go with a theme. Let's say Good Bull Hunting is just plain Bullshit. Take a chain for example like What-a-Burger (for some reason people always love What-a-burger reviews, yet not in Texas...) .. Yeah, why not put a chain up against the best BBQ in Texas like Fargo's. It would be like a childish prank vs. the voters themselves as those don't even compare. It's like comparing a Ford Fusion to a Tesla in regards to how many recalls they had last week.

Thank God they have not made the mistake of putting Fuego (now a chain) up for a vote. Savagely over-rated place being now supplimented by Austin chain Torchy's. While Fuego is a College Station original concept by a San Antonio chain, I can not and will never again suggest it due to Brazos County Health Department actions which are public. And personal experience.

Where's the old skool Mexican? Jose's in Bryan on Texas Avenue has recipes dating back to the 1880's operated by the same family as originally Zapatos on 200 University Drive E in 1960 when Uni Dr E ended as a dirt road to the University. Why is this not mentioned? Lack of qualification to even compare foods. Editorial incompetence perhaps. Here is the REAL history of Mexican food in Bryan / College Station which is documented to the original Tex-Mex in Texas;

yelp.com/biz/joses-resta…

Oh Halloween.

So, thank you to Good Bull Hunting for giving me a shout out in your blog and Munch Madness (or May or whatever it is).

I think it's rude for mass media to conduct a nonsensical survey of unverified nor qualified voters. Unless any voter has eaten at just the very small and simple list of what I have just mentioned, they have no basis for comparison and are therefore unqualified to vote.

Unless the publication accepts results based on brand name recognition only.

THERE ARE NO BESTS!

The food of College Station and Bryan is way too complex in history and variety that comparison of wide variety means nothing. So thank you Good Bull Hunting for what I will call a lot of Bullshit.

Where is Veritas? In fact where is Restaurant San Jose in downtown Bryan? Real old Mexican food. Pure, local, authentic. What about Zand's and oh yeah what's that food truck that won America's Favorite on Food Network? Chef Tai's. And what about Paysito and the original taco truck on A&M campus since 1958? Did you miss my review of that?

Okay, so let's keep ranting then. Where is Sbisa? Sbisa Dining Hall has been serving hungry aggies for well over a century. Millions of meals served on Texas A&M University Campus. That's real Aggie Food. I gave it 5 stars years ago and still would.

The honest truth in my own experience in having eaten at every place that serves food in Bryan and College Station over the last 7+ years is that MAD Taco is #1 at present. Comparing food types which are not even similar is pointless and the coverage by Good Bull Hunting lacks any historical value. Thus being a waste of time, aside from stirring up this.

Greg AKA : The Taco Monster
(A College Station Original) ;)

I do not take exception to any of the slights toward my editorial competence or the intentions of this contest. Far more egregious is Greg D. misspelling "Manziel" and repeatedly calling me out for omitting restaurants that were actually in the bracket. Mickey's Sliders was a 3-seed that made the top 16 and Republic was a 2-seed reaching the top 8. Veritas, Payasito, and Sbisa all were included. Greg D. seems to have found an alternate GBH (maybe The Mugdown) with a completely different field of restaurants.

But if you're an avid reader of Greg D. as we are at GBH, you'll know this is not the first time his rating does not match the sentiment of a review and his statements have no basis in reality. Regardless, we like Greg D. and appreciate the time he spent FTR-ing Good Bull Hunting. A taco monster in his own right, Greg D. has conquered the food scene in Bryan-College Station and taken no prisoners (someone may want to check on Bush 41). I contend that the historical value of this Munch Madness competition is introducing Greg D. to a new audience and encouraging him to participate in something outside of Yelp, the website he hates and where he has posted over 3000 reviews and 35,000 photos. Now let's vote.

Our Flavorful Four is beginning to take form. Today we finish our Exquisite Eight voting and the race for one true champion of Bryan-College Station restaurants begins on Monday.

Update: Click here to vote in the next round.

Oh dear. I mean, oh boy, we are really working toward the end of this thing now. #1 Layne's finished off a perfectly-seeded South region by defeating #2 Koppe Bridge. Y'all must hate Australian Party Kid. In the East, fast-food chain #4 Whataburger upset #2 The Republic. Let's see how the other side of the bracket shapes up in this food competition.

We're down to our Exquisite Eight finalists in our quest to find the best restaurant in Bryan-College Station. Fortunately, everyone has agreed with all of the results so far.

Update: Click here to vote in the next round.

Here we are with eight exquisite Bryan-College Station restaurants, including the Dixie Chicken, left standing. We have 3 burger joints which also seem markedly different, 2 chicken spots, a BBQ counter, a late-night taco grill, and a fine dining steakhouse. Make your Flavorful Four predictions in the comments sections. You may as well pick your champion while you're there. We'll finish voting for the Exquisite Eight tomorrow and then pick up on Monday with the Final Four before Tuesday's Championship and Wednesday's coronation.

The South Region has been perfect chalk to this point. Will top-seed Layne's be able to close things out against #2 Koppe Bridge? The East Region matchup is a doozy with a fast food burger chain facing a high-end local steakhouse. I'm not sure what to expect. Now that we're coming down to the wire, I wanted to check in with Twitter to see what people have to say about our finalists.

With 4 teams now locked into the Exquisite Eight, today we finish up our Scrumptious 16 voting with the West and North regions. By tomorrow we'll have named the top 8 restaurants in Bryan-College Station.

Update: Click here to vote in the next round.

We had a wild ride through the left side of the bracket yesterday with #4 Whataburger edging out #9 Wings 'N More by the slimmest of margins. #2 seed The Republic kept the fine dining contingent alive while #1 Layne's rolled over #4 Torchy's Tacos in what I thought would be a closer matchup.

I'm not sure what to expect anymore. My seeding turned out to be pretty accurate and people are mad at gigthem08 (and me by proxy), so I'd say things are going well. Continue to be mad in the comments section and tell your friends to vote because there are stickers on the line. For the last time, let's see how gigthem08 sizes up today's contenders.

gigthem08's analysis

Part Two: I'm pretty much out of things to say about all of these places :-D

***********************

The West: Semifinal #1 - Chicken Oil Co. vs. The Dixie Chicken

Full Name: Chicken Oil Company (#1 seed)

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #16 Applebee's (96% of the vote); W - #8 Amico Nave (84% of the vote)

Strengths: The destruction of Applebee's was the most dominant performance by a #1 seed I've ever seen, and I watched all 40 minutes of this year's Kentucky/West Virginia debacle. Received a litany of hot #taeks from frustrated journalists who feel they like to run up the score.

Weaknesses: Their half price burger Mondays were a mainstay during my studies for the CPA exam, so I will always unfairly dislike this place on some level. This is a personal opinion that should be ignored, which makes it no different than everything else, really.

vs.

Full Name: The Dixie Chicken (#5 seed)

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #12 Los Cucos (81% of the vote); W - #13 Blackwater Draw (57% of the vote)

Strengths: Remarkably similar food to Chicken Oil... almost as if they are owned by the same parent company. One can throw bones, down pitchers of booze, and pee on ice in an establishment that couldn't be more quintessentially Aggie if it were located on Kyle's 50 yard line. The timeless staple of Northgate.

Weaknesses: Some didn't like the decision to branch out and add a liquor wall + expanded beer selection... but I love it. The place still feels the exact same, only now you can choose from more than a half-dozen beer options. There are those who think this takes away from the charm, but I couldn't disagree more.

***********************

The West: Semifinal #2 - Freebirds vs. Fuego

Full Name: Freebirds World Burrito (#2 seed)

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #15 Smashburger (83% of the vote); W - #7 Jin's Asian (70% of the vote)

Strengths: This is my hangover meal. There are many like it but this one is mine. Provides ample foil to keep you interested during interminable conversations with family, because that foil Sully isn't going to make himself.

Weaknesses: I didn't love when they expanded their offerings. Felt to me like they were trying to mirror Chipotle's menu to certain level. Just do you, boo boo.

vs.

Full Name: Fuego Tortilla Grill (#3 seed)

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #14 Lupe Tortilla (83% of the vote); W - #6 Antonio's Pizza (59% of the vote)

Strengths: Pretty dang good tacos... especially their breakfast tacos. Can take an act of congress to get an order in during peak hours, but always worth the wait.

Weaknesses: I'm sad they knocked Antonio's out. I'm an #old, so I will always see Antonio's as the 3am place to eat. And like any good graduated Ag, I am confident that the active thing during my time on campus will always be the best possible version of that thing.

***********************

The North: Semifinal #1 - Fargo's vs. Shipwreck

Full Name: Fargo's Pit BBQ (#1 seed)

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #16 Jesse's Taqueria (85% of the vote); W - #8 Blue Baker (65% of the vote)

Strengths: Probably the best BBQ in the greater BCS area. If we're going on taste alone (which we should), this should last longer than any BBQ joint in the field.

Weaknesses: Like any top-flight BBQ place, the wait will be a pain. And you're going to be shuffled through the line like cattle. But that's the going rate for top-end Texas BBQ. It's worth it.

vs.

Full Name: Shipwreck Grill (#5 seed)

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #12 Raspas El Paya (71% of the vote); W - #4 Fishdaddy's (56% of the vote)

Strengths: Crawfish. Crawfish, crawfish, crawfish. They're good at just about everything seafood related, but it's a must-visit during crawfish season.

Weaknesses: It's not really on the way to anything. It's worth the trip, but you'll have a 15 minute drive towards whatever you're going to do next.

***********************

The North: Semifinal #2 - Mickey's vs. Grub

Full Name: Grub Burger Bar (#2 seed)

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #15 Longhorn Tavern (83% of the vote); W - #7 Chuy's (61% of the vote)

Strengths: Food quality trumps all here. It almost feels out of place in CS, in a weird way, but the burger and shakes are so dang good that it just doesn't matter. When it comes to pace/ambiance/decor, probably about as far away from the other burger joints in town as possible. Not that that's bad, it's just different.

Weaknesses: You don't get to pick where you sit, which evokes strong memories from the assigned seating days in the cafeteria when you had to make conversation with the weird kids. I hope I wasn't the weird kid. I was probably the weird kid.

vs.

Full Name: Mickey's Sliders (#3 seed)

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #14 BJ's (47.8% of the vote [vs. 47.3%]); W - #11 Atami (51% of the vote)

Strengths: The two closest battles of the entire tournament belong to these guys. They are like the Holiday-Bowl-Bound '06 A&M football squad, with decidedly less short-side option. Has a loyal customer base that raves about their food. I haven't been, but this process has taught me that I need to change that.

Weaknesses: The plucky side that makes the second weekend of the dance always falls short in the Sweet (Scrumptious) 16. When you play with fire, you eventually get burned, and I think the physical toll of two extremely close battles will be too much to overcome.

The final 16 are set and voting takes place today and tomorrow to determine the top 8 restaurants in Bryan-College Station.

Update: Click here to vote in the next round.

We've rounded out our Scrumptious 16 with our North Region results. #3 Mickey's Sliders held a narrow margin over #11 Atami Steak and Sushi all of yesterday and closed the door this morning. The #1 and #2 seeds Fargo's and Grub Burger won comfortably while Shipwreck Grill claimed the seafood battle over Fish Daddy's. Congratulations to all of the restaurants who've survived to see the Scrumptious 16. You'll all receive a flashy GBH Munch Madness sticker to reflect your final result along with some stats about your performance.

The first two rounds of Munch Madness were, for the most part, dominated by higher seeds. That means we'll see some incredible battles as we move toward determining the best restaurant in Bryan-College Station. GBH contributor gigthem08 wrote the original Munch Madness thinkpiece once the field was announced. I invited him back to break down each half of the bracket for the Scrumptious 16. Here we go...

Wait, it's that same guy? Didn't everybody hate his bracket? Why should we listen to him?

In order: Yes, yes, and because this is the internet.

If everybody let unimportant drivel like "track record of being correct in the past" and "knowledge of the subject" stop them from writing, the internet would be a boring and lonely place. And the bottom of The Tailgate would have a decidedly Chip-Brown-sized hole every week.

But the backlash from various brackets posted to twitter and the follow-up commentary associated with each day's results has made one thing abundantly clear: this is serious business.

I said it somewhat tongue-in-cheek during my overall analysis of the field, but it turns out I was horrifyingly accurate. So, what does this website do when confronted with serious business? We take it seriously.

Without further ado, here's part two of the Critical Examination of Munch Madness. Today, we tackle the left half of the bracket. And we begin with the south.

***********************

The South: Semifinal #1 - Layne's vs. Torchy's

Full Name: Layne's Chicken Fingers (#1 seed)

Motto: Soon to be famous Chicken Fingers

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #16 Potbellys (87% of the vote); W - #8 Potato Shack (82% of the vote)

Strengths: The original chicken finger institution on Chicken Finger Row. Nobody actually calls it Chicken Finger Row, but somehow that was almost a thing. Imagine the indignity. Side note: They have been absolutely destroying fools.

Weaknesses: Comic Sans? Really?

vs.

Full Name: Torchy's Tacos (#4 seed)

Motto: Damn Good Tacos

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #13 Remnant Nawlins (87% of the vote); W - #5 Chick-fil-A (56% of the vote)

Strengths: The newest game in town. Battle-tested after surviving a scare against Chick-fil-A. Excellent tacos that are pretty dang cheap and some of the best queso I've ever had.

Weaknesses: If you want food from this establishment, you need to prepare accordingly. One does not simply walk in to the CS Torchy's. Bring a book, an emergency container of gasoline, and perhaps a canteen. Also they cursed in their motto and cursing is the worst.

***********************

The South: Semifinal #2 - Koppe Bridge vs. Hullabaloo

Full Name: Koppe Bridge Bar & Grill (#2 seed)

Motto: The Best Big Burger in Town

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #15 Hungry Howie's (83% of the vote); W - #7 Doubledaves (74% of the vote)

Strengths: Proven to be an effective destroyer of pizza through the first two rounds. Has a stranglehold on the "Best of the Brazos" burger category that would make KU basketball and the Big XII blush (16 straight years). My go-to place after witnessing a rough A&M loss in person, which is the highest compliment I can pay to any CS-based food establishment.

Weaknesses: I am incapable of saying anything negative about this place.

vs.

Full Name: Hullabaloo Diner (#3 seed)

Motto: N/A

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #14 Jason's Deli (82% of the vote); W - #6 Harvey Washbangers (71% of the vote)

Strengths: They skated through a rather easy draw, but no matter... it's all about food. The portion sizes are comically large and the food is great, but there's literally nothing else to the place. It's just food. Amazing, amazing, food.

Weaknesses: Possibly the toughest location to get to if you're starting from campus. No online presence, but some would call that a plus. I will give five GBH dollars to anyone who walks into this place and tries to explain Munch Madness.

***********************

The East: Semifinal #1 - Wings 'N More vs. Whataburger

Full Name: Wings 'N More (#9 seed)

Motto: Great Wings 'N So Much More

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #8 Kolache Rolf's (68% of the vote); W - #1 Christopher's (53% of the vote)

Strengths: Fears no CS-based eating establishment. Has not had a chance to dust off the home uni's traditionally worn by favorites, but no matter. They appear destined to fly out of this region scot-free.

Weaknesses: What starts as a nice evening out with friends at a wing place might end up #turnt, as Everclear can allegedly find its way into the margaritas on the University location. Allegedly. (Ok, we confirmed that this isn't true. Thanks, Greg D.) Plan your evening accordingly. Who am I kidding, this is also a strength.

vs.

Full Name: Whataburger (#4 seed)

Motto: Just like you like it

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #13 Luigi's (81% of the vote); W - #5 Veritas (72% of the vote)

Strengths: Well, well, well... the food of the common man has yet again dispatched of the bourgeois. For my money, it's the best burger in the South that you can get quickly, but it remains to be seen just how far that can take them. Probably one of the reasons I will never move north of the Mason-Dixon.

Weaknesses: It's damn good fast food.... but at its core, it's still fast food. I can't shake the feeling that the popular company with a maroon stripe on the roof will eventually be outmatched.

***********************

The East: Semifinal #2 - C&J vs. The Republic

Full Name: The Republic Steakhouse (#2 seed)

Motto: Steak. Wine. Whiskey.

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #15 Smitty K's (79% of the vote); W - #7 Ozona (63% of the vote)

Strengths: Another high seed that hasn't really gotten their hands dirty... the uber-favorite who cruised through the first weekend with enough wiggle room to give the bench plenty of playing time. Everyone loves watching the scrubs play. Look at them go. They try so hard. Oh, and if The Republic Steakhouse loses to C&J barbecue I quit the internet. It is, without question, the best meal I have had in the B/CS area.

Weaknesses: It costs a lot of money, as really nice steakhouses tend to do. But this isn't called Value Madness. Flavor should rule the day.

vs.

Full Name: C&J Barbecue (#3 seed)

Motto: Come and git it

Road to the Scrumptious 16: W - #14 Flip & Peel (79% of the vote); W - #6 Rudy's (54% of the vote)

Strengths: According to their website, "for 11 years in a row C&J has been honored with the "Best of the Brazos" award for Barbeque Restaurant." Clearly, they have a loyal fan base. A fan base who, if they notch this win, should all quit their jobs and become DC lobbyists or something because they can clearly convince anybody of anything.

Weaknesses: Their website automatically starts playing music, which is a thing I don't love. Another thing I don't love: their BBQ. But that's just one man's opinion.

***********************

Stay tuned, ladies and gents. Tomorrow, I break down the other half of the bracket.

We've arrived to the last region of our Munch Madness Round-of-32 with only one restaurant lower than a 5-seed advancing to the prestigious Scrumptious 16.

Update: Click here to vote in the next round.

We see one huge upset out of the East region with top-seed Christopher's World Grille falling to Wings 'N More. Some of y'all warned me that Wings 'N More was about to go on a run. Now we'll turn our attention toward the North to round out the top 16 restaurants in Munch Madness. #11 Atami vs. #3 Mickey's Sliders looks the most intriguing from where I sit but we also have a nice seafood fight in the 4 vs. 5 spot. Remember to come back tomorrow to vote on both the South and East regions in our Scrumptious 16.

We're looking at some relatively new restaurants to Bryan College-Station in the North region. Some older Ags out there have probably never eaten at any of these spots. Will any restaurant from this region be able to take out the West winner? Let's get the good and bad from the TexAgs.com Aggieland board.

1 Fargo's Pit BBQ (720 N Texas Ave)

The Good: The ribs were outstanding - as was the brisket. The beans and potato salad made me wish both came in gallon containers! - rc_cat

The Bad: It's too bad they don't have a $1.99 combo special like Sonic. T&P for those who cannot afford Fargo's world class barbecue. - acp46

8 Blue Baker (201 Dominik Dr)

The Good: Blue baker > Jimmy Johns in every respect that counts. - FlyRod

The Bad: I like breakfast at Blue Baker. Never been to a Waffle House - Vox Humana

5 Shipwreck Grill (206 E Villa Maria)

The Good: The Shipwreck is one of our favorite places. Lunch and dinner we have always liked it. Inexpensive and good fast service. - Straight Talk

The Bad: The so- called spicy buffalo crawfish were tiny and just plain ordinary , Popeyes Cajun crawfish are much better. The wife's order , blackened talipia was not well seasoned and also bland. - The Original Ag 76

4 Fish Daddy's (1611 University Dr E)

The Good: If you order onion rings at Fish Daddy's, be prepared to share. It's a stack on a plate at least a foot high. - rp71

The Bad: Pappadeaux's is confirmed on New Development list. T&P for Fish Daddy's - AGnCS

11 Atami Steak & Sushi (800 University Dr E Ste 200)

The Good: I love Atami! Great sushi and great hibachi dinners! +1 for the cowboy roll! - Bigderk21

The Bad: I used to go pretty often but the service was getting progressively worse. - CN

3 Mickey's Sliders (700 University Dr E)

The Good: Get the chili cheese fries and thank me later *not for people who enjoy cross fit - mazag08

The Bad: I didn't know it was possible to make a piece of chicken that tough and dry and the onion rings were sparse and greasy. They will not be there very long. - SumAggie

7 Chuy's (1512 Harvey Rd)

The Good: Chuys imho is the best fajita in town. - Orlando Ayala Cant Read

The Bad: I'm white and Chuys is beyond terrible food IMO. - LJF78

2 Grub Burger Bar (980 University Dr E Ste 400)

The Good: I FINALLY made it to Grub tonight, and it was amazing. Sad it took me so long. - PrincessButtercup

The Bad: I was underwhelmed with Grub. Not awful, but not great. - Fonzie Scheme

You've never agreed with the internet before, so why start now? Make your own decisions on who should advance in the North.

The Round-of-32 continues with the East Region and some intriguing matchups including Rudy's vs. C&J. Settle in to our comments section and let's forge ahead to determine the best restaurant in Bryan-College Station.

Update: Click here to vote in the next round.

The favorites march on in the West region. Let's tip our hats to Blackwater Draw, a feisty 13-seed who took out Cafe Eccell and ran a great campaign before falling to the Dixie Chicken. May your seeding be more favorable in 2016. Let's do brunch. The East region looks kind of crazy to me, so let's see what today brings.

Ahhhh, the East presents us with some age-old questions. Christopher's or Wings 'N More? Veritas or Whataburger? The Republic or Ozona? Just what the hell is going on here? Okay, the BBQ showdown will keep us all grounded. First, let's see what the TexAgs.com Aggieland board has to say...

1 Christopher's (5001 Booneville Rd)

The Good: Christopher's house filet is the best in town. I can duplicate pretty much any of the "big box"/Chain "steak houses" in town, on my grill at the house. Christopher's, not so much. - SAWgunner

The Bad: I've had more than a few bad meals at Christopher's. Christopher's is, however, the best place in town to get fawned and slobbered all over obsequiously, if that's your thing. - FlyRod

9 Wings 'N More (1511 University Dr E)

The Good: Wings 'n More. No doubt. I love it, family loves it, friends love it. My friends who are off at college miss it so much! From their amazing chicken tenders to their wings or ribs, that place is hard to beat! - WeasleyIsOurKing

The Bad: We just had Wings N More for lunch yesterday. We had the strange rectangular tenders as well. Felt like I was eating rubber...super disappointed. - AggieWife2008

5 Veritas (830 University Dr E)

The Good: Veritas. A truly nice restaurant with exceptional food. - MrsFlyingSquirrel95

The Bad: I love ceviche and I have not found it in this town period, except for an extremely inauthentic version Veritas serves (which is good...just not the real deal). - acp46

4 Whataburger (105 Dominik)

The Good: Whataburger is the best! - Kashchei

The Bad: I have seen Whataburger run out of fries - Aggie

6 Rudy's Bar-B-Q (504 Harvey Rd)

The Good: gotta be honest...Rudy's is #1 on my list - W

The Bad: I am as anti-chain and pro local as they come. Few things irk me as much as people who think Rudy's is the best BBQ in town... - DanHo2010

3 C&J Barbeque (4304 Harvey Rd)

The Good: Its hard to beat the lunch special ribs @ C&J on Friday! Making me hungry! - Culligan Water

The Bad: The wifey had catfish at C&J's on Hwy 30 last night. Waaaaaay too salty. Won't be doing that again. - Caladan

7 Ozona (520 Harvey Rd)

The Good: I'd recommend Ozona. It's affordable, tasty, and that porch is killer on a Spring morning. - marginal_boy

The Bad: I'll echo those that claim Ozona's has terrible food. It's true. - CDub06

2 The Republic (701 University Dr E Ste 406)

The Good: Everything in the Brazos Valley begins and ends with The Republic. Spend way too much money there but enjoy every minute of it. Never dreamed that CS would have a restaurant like this. Food, service, ambience, bar, drinks are out of the park. - gopitt

The Bad: Was at the Republic last night and, yes, the service, atmosphere, etc. is fine. But, for the third time in a row, I had a tough, overcooked steak. I'm a dumbass for ordering steak there. Look at the menu prices. These are not the prices for top-notch prime beef. - saray
