It's Wednesday Trendsday...sort of!

Chuck gave me the keys to this dang thing but I don't know much math so hang tight.

#wellactually disclaimer: Oklahoma State was used for Hubenak (we know he stopped at Blinn afterward) because it was easier and looked cooler on the map. Honestly if you're #wellactuallying on this website we don't know what to tell you. You've made a misstep somewhere.

Anyway, all facts presented here are irrefutable, etc.

SURPRISE! There was QB stuff in the news this week, as Trevor Knight was named the starter coming out of spring practice. The drama surrounding the most visible position in football is long and storied, and you can catch up on it here. But we're ready to look to the future. We've got two guys who arrived here via very circuitous paths trying to make up for the SIX who left Texas A&M to ply their trade at various locales around the Big 12 and beyond.

You can use math/science for anything, right? That's what we thought. Why not take the journeys of these eight QBs and wring some numbers out of them to try to project where the next incoming transfer will originate? Why not, indeed. This is offseason, after all, and manipulating vaguely-relevant data to fit a pre-conceived narrative is a tradition as old as time itself. We are not above such an exercise.

LET'S MAP THESE SUCKERS OUT

Arriving QBs

Player

Origin

Mileage

Jake Hubenak

Oklahoma State

435.8 miles

Oklahoma

357.1 miles

That's a total of 792.9 miles between the two incoming transfers for a QBM (QB Mileage) factor of 396.45 per player.

Departing QBs

Player

Destination

Mileage

99.8 miles

Kyler Murray

Oklahoma

357.1 miles

That's a total of 1,695.9 between the six outgoing transfers for a QBM of 282.65 per player.

QBM diff: 396.45 - 282.65 = 113.8

That's a mileage difference of 113.8 per player. Therefore, the next four transfers will roughly average that distance in transfer miles in order to attain a net zero, assuming the number of departing QBs remains at 0. Why wouldn't we assume such a thing? Everything is better now it's fine everything's fine. Thousands of man-hours of calculations have been logged by Internet Nobel Laureate mathematicians toiling in similar studies over the past decades and nothing has ever deviated from the expected. In a perfect world, absolute zero is the baseline goal for every college football fan.

So anyway, that's the magic number: 113.8 miles.

SO IS THERE A SCHOOL THAT'S 113.8 MILES AWAY?

Pretty damn close but do they even have 4 QBs? Doesn't seem like it. Pass.

OH WELL BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD

Taking another approach, we could just go for it all and blow our transfer mileage differential wad in one shot, meaning we'd need to land one huge transfer from a school 455.2 miles away. It's all made super-easy with this handy radius map tool thing.

Let us cast our net:

The ex-Aggie QB opens up about the last two football seasons.

In a recent interview with CBS Sports ' Dennis Dodd, the former Aggie quarterback opened up about his time in Aggieland, his transfer to the University of Houston, and some of the reasons he made the change. It seems that things were not always rosy in the years following the departure of Johnny Manziel.

“I think the culture was a big part of it, and I think that stems from Johnny's era there -- the way that they let Johnny and [others] act there,” said Allen, the No. 1-rated pro-style quarterback in the 247Sports Composite for 2014. “They [could] do that and still win games because they had Johnny … and five offensive linemen playing in the NFL right now.”

Allen added: “A lot of people were riding off that, ‘I can do whatever the hell I want and win on Saturday.'"

These comments raise some red flags about the overall culture of the program. What we don't know is if these are merely the lone feelings of a QB who transferred under less-than-amicable terms or if this truly points to a larger problem within our football program the last 2-3 seasons.

Who is Trevor Knight?

The Oklahoma transfer will join the Aggies for the 2016 campaign.

By now, you've heard the good news that a former four-star QB recruit is actually transferring to Texas A&M. That's good! So what else do we know about Trevor Knight?

How many seasons will he have at Texas A&M?

Knight will have one year of eligibility remaining, since he's a graduate transfer. He is eligible immediately.

Is he any good?

He was rated four stars out of San Antonio Reagan high school and committed to Oklahoma in October 2011. He started 15 games over 2013-2014 before Baker Mayfield took over for good this season. You may remember his best performance: he was the MVP of the 2014 Sugar Bowl and led #10 OU to a massive victory over #3 Alabama with four touchdown passes.

So why is he transferring?

OU has a pretty good QB who is a junior and unlikely to declare early for the NFL Draft because he "lacks" "measurables". Mayfield finished fourth in the Heisman voting this season so he's going to be the guy next year.

Does he mind a QB competition?

It doesn't look like it. He seems to be a pretty grounded guy. In fact, Jake Hubenak has already made nice. It seems like this will be a friendly competition.

It's easy to be snarky about saying that a guy "fits" the program. In this day of uber-5-star-#swagger, talking about "fit" sounds so hokey it might as well be wearing a leather helmet. With advanced metrics and recruits being analyzed at an unheard-of level, it is much easier to agree that superior talent always wins.

The San Antonio Spurs famously fly in the face of that convention. Though talented, they rely far more on team chemistry than individual stars and the result is staggering. Stephen McGee fit Texas A&M so well that he was willing to be forced into system after system that did not fit him. One could argue that he might have done better elsewhere, but he is an Aggie to his core and will always be remembered as a Longhorn-killer to boot.

It sucks to lose two 5-star QBs in a week. There is no disputing that. However, no one who watched what we saw on the field ever since the Alabama game can say that this was a cohesive offense, one that was all on the same page and bought into what they were doing.

The talent scales may have tipped in Louisville's favor this last week. Maybe our team is just not quite good enough to beat them now as they were 8 days ago.
Here's how he got to Texas A&M and what he's done along the way.

After an absolutely wild week that saw two five-star quarterbacks transfer away from Texas A&M, the Aggies have a sudden and surprise starter: Jake Hubenak. Who exactly is he? Here's a snapshot.

Hubenak played 4A ball at Georgetown, just outside of Austin, where he amassed a 19-1 record as a starter. He earned 4A player of the year accolades and was the district MVP. He suffered a season-ending knee injury as a junior, and despite going 15-1 as a senior with his only loss being in the state championship game, he was rated only a 2-star prospect.

Aggie Athletics bio page

Jake walked on at Oklahoma State in 2013 when he didn't receive any major scholarship offers. He arrived in a time of need for the Cowboys amid the departure of Wes Lunt. He did not attempt a pass at Oklahoma State, and transferred to Blinn JC for the 2014 season.

During the 2014 season at Blinn, Hubenak was 216-333 for 4052 yards with 47 touchdown passes against 9 interceptions. Under his guidance, the Buccaneers never scored fewer than 40 points in any game. Well, that certainly got the interest of major programs. He chose to come to A&M over Texas and LSU, among others. His favorite target at Blinn? Fellow transfer Damion Ratley, whose 2014 numbers were ridiculous: 45 catches for 1197 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Blinn bio page

For now, it looks like Hubenak is ready to assume the role and face Louisville in the bowl game, and he's got plenty of support from the team.

The Aggie Football team is not buying into the negativity surrounding the recent QB transfers.

Last Thursday, Kyle Allen announced his transfer from the Aggie Football program. Today we learned that Kyler Murray will transfer. There is some prime meltdown stuff happening in Aggieland, but the players are not discouraged. Lots of support for QB1 Jake Hubenak.
