MAEK OR BRAEK. "Next year" is the chanting mantra of sports fans and vapid, campaigning politicians. It's the hope to pull your sorry ass out of bed despite your life being as banal and dismal no matter what quack is running your college football program country. Brass tacks though - 2016 isn't like other years for Texas A&M football. The trajectory of Kevin Sumlin's career largely hinges on how 2016 unfolds for Aggie football. The roster will be filled with Sumlin's guys from stem to stern. It'll be Year 2 of Chavis building what hopefully is one of the SEC's best defenses. The offense will be overhauled. It's time.
Many of the rational folks (I know of like three of us) predicted the Ags to go 8-4 in the regular season. On the surface, not a horrid record in a tough division when you're still young and thin in certain key areas. The issue isn't in the final record but more in how we got there. How was the sausage made? We predicted 8-4 in August because we thought those L's were coming from a defense that would still be finding its way. You know, losing games 31-34. Like old times. Instead, we got a BALLS OUT Year 1 from Chavis and a piecemeal, give-a-fuck defense that put the team in position to win just about every game this season. I want to buy our secondary the finest steaks in Houston, some nice hooch, and some call girls. They earned it.
Throw in a couple scrap heap linebackers, and I'm fully confident John Chavis will trot out a defensive unit that will make us proud in 2016.
The offense. Oh offense. Think you're pissed? Sumlin's entire coaching identity is wrapped up in steering Ferrari kill machine offenses. The offense, in its current state, is a mess. Play calling, the disappearing of star skill guys, etc. are all but symptoms of a unit that is lost at its core. They're soft. There is no buy-in. Skill guys are shiny ornaments on a dead ass tree when the offensive line is getting its ass thoroughly kicked all season. They play as individuals. Does Sumlin have the humility to push any stubbornness aside and rip out the root of all these problems?
2016 needs to bear some fruit. I believe in Coach Sumlin.
HEY - HOOPS! The Aggie basketball team knocked off the Florida Gulf Coast Jet Skis last night at the Reed Mausoleum. Forcin' turnovers, poppin' J's... this team is good watching. Jalen Jones is a monster. Gig 'em, dudes.
UH OH ANOTHER THING TO TALK TO THE THERAPIST ABOUT. Quandaries abound for broskis. Do you lease the yellow BMW or crush Vegas with Chad? What are we to do with our attraction to Ronda Rousey? DOES THAT MEAN WE LIKE CHUCK LIDDELL?! This young sorority girl at Florida State is an absolute monster on the flag football gridiron. Be still, my heart.
GIG 'EM, JOHN DAVID. Look at that mug. That is so Texas A&M. God bless JDC.
