Instant Reaction: Texas A&M Basketball holds off Mizzou 66-53

It wasn't always pretty, but the Aggies eventually got it clicking to avoid a trap game with Missouri and remain undefeated in SEC play. Here are three takeaways.

Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports

It was presented as a potential trap game for the Aggies by hoops writers. The soaring Aggies were set to face off against a bumbling Missouri tigers squad in Reed Arena in front of another sold out crowd. It definitely wasn't looking promising after the first half, but the Aggies came out of the locker room and dominated the second half of the game today to finish with a convincing win. That's 10 wins in a row, and the undefeated record in SEC play lives to fight another day.

1. That boot was a scary sight

I'll be honest, I held my breath a little too long when they showed Tyler Davis in street clothes in a boot. It's said to be a precautionary step to prevent a foot problem from worsening, and Missouri is a great opponent to give the young star a break. Aggies fans will certainly be hoping the boot is as precautionary as they are being led to believe. The big freshman is averaging 11 points and 6 boards while shooting 68% from the field this season, and will certainly be a pivotal piece in the teams conference and post-season success. Get better, big fella!

2. Tavario Miller, take a bow

Miller got the start tonight in place of Tyler Davis, and he took advantage of his 21 gametime minutes to show everyone a heavy dose of what he's been doing all season. Miller has very quietly been having himself one hell of a season on the defensive end of the floor. He grabbed 10 rebounds against the Tigers and only boosted his defensive rebound percentage stat on the year (he'd be in the top 100 nationally if he average a few more minutes per game). His 22.9 DR% is the best on the Aggies squad this season, and he's rebounding the ball at an even better clip in conference play.

3. Is the Reed Arena magic back?

The Good Bull Hunting hoops crew has been fawning over the packed seats at Reed Arena for the LSU game, and the Mizzou game was no different. The students and fans were there wearing white shirts and rocking Reed. The most impressive thing about this today is that it was a pretty really bad opponent at 3PM on a Saturday. You could always expect a big crowd for a team like Kentucky, but packing Reed Arena for a subpar opponent brings back so many memories from when there was a line to get in for every game to watch the Aggies. Good basketball is an awesome thing, and good Aggie Basketball has me all caught up in my emotions.

Your Fightin' Texas Aggies will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday in Fayetteville.
