DJ Hogg Bringing More 5-Star Talent to Reed Arena

The Aggie Basketball staff landed their second 5-star recruit in two weeks.

We're two weeks into the heart of the 2014 college basketball recruiting season, and the Aggie Basketball program has landed their second 5-star player.

Hogg is another ESPN Top 100 talent at #28, and the #3 ranked player in the state of Texas. Much like his current high school teammate at Plano West and fellow Aggie commit Tyler Davis, Hogg was a highly sought after recruit. Arizona, Baylor, UCLA, Notre Dame, Texas, and other big hoops programs extended offers to the 6'8" Power Forward. A lot of the excitement around Hogg centers around his ability to stretch the floor and be a deadeye shooter anywhere from 15 feet to beyond the three point arc. It's easy to watch video of him and fall in love with how his always square to the hoop and ready to shoot when he catches the ball on the perimeter. Even more impressive is his quick release and how lethal that makes his shot off the dribble. Hogg's size and shooting skill allow the Aggies to use him against zone defense looks by having a high post and outside threat from a big man without having to sacrifice height when he slide into a four guard lineup. Something hoops recruiting writers haven't given enough attention to is a pretty big improvement in his athleticism from last summer to this summer.

Hogg also brings the count of current players or recruits that played together on the Texas Titans AAU team to four. Loyal Aggie Hoops fans have been waiting for the program to have a more dominant presence with in-state select teams and high schools, and it looks like those wheels are finally gaining some traction. Assistant Head Coach and current hot-handed recruiter Kyle Keller is making some serious inroads in the hoops-talent rich DFW Metroplex.
