HOWDY & HAPPY FRIDAY. We take a braek from the taeks today to just roll through some important things that happened on February nineteenths throughout history. Call it a mental exercise. We're not lazy, just creative.
- 197 – Emperor Septimius Severus defeats usurper Clodius Albinus in the Battle of Lugdunum, the bloodiest battle between Roman armies.
"Septimus Severus" loosely translates to "when September ends" so go crazy with the Green Day love in the comments below
- 1674 – England and the Netherlands sign the Treaty of Westminster, ending the Third Anglo-Dutch War. A provision of the agreement transfers the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam to England, and it is renamed New York.
England was thrilled with their newfound claims to gritty cop dramas and financial malfeasance.
- 1726 – The Supreme Privy Council is established in Russia.
Gotta admire their respect for a dignified restroom experience.
- 1807 – Former Vice President of the United States Aaron Burr is arrested for treason in Wakefield, Alabama and confined to Fort Stoddert.
AARON BURR SAY IT REAL FAST IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE AUBURN PAWL AND OH LOOK AT THAT HE'S CHEATIN' TOO LORDY LORDY ROLL TIDE PAWL REVERE I'MMA HANGUPANLISSEN
1846 – In Austin, Texas the newly formed Texas state government is officially installed. The Republic of Texas government officially transfers power to the State of Texas government following the annexation of Texas by the United States
The only important thing to ever happen on this day in history ever.
- 1847 – The first group of rescuers reaches the Donner Party.
Shoulda gone to that brand-new state Texas instead IMO
- 1913 – Pedro Lascuráin becomes President of Mexico for 45 minutes; this is the shortest term to date of any person as president of any country.
Don't Vote for Pedro
- 1953 – Censorship: Georgia approves the first literature censorship board in the United States.
Fuck these assholes.
- 2002 – NASA's Mars Odyssey space probe begins to map the surface of Mars using its thermal emission imaging system.
Still looking for the real Matt Damon as his clone Matt Damon 4207b has gone on to a wildly successful career in the interim.
Have a historic damn Friday. Beisbol starts today. Hoops plays Kentucky tomorrow. Have a fun weekend.
