New Texas A&M QB Trevor Knight: a primer

The Oklahoma transfer will join the Aggies for the 2016 campaign.

Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports

By now, you've heard the good news that a former four-star QB recruit is actually transferring to Texas A&M. That's good! So what else do we know about Trevor Knight?

How many seasons will he have at Texas A&M?

Knight will have one year of eligibility remaining, since he's a graduate transfer. He is eligible immediately.

Is he any good?

He was rated four stars out of San Antonio Reagan high school and committed to Oklahoma in October 2011. He started 15 games over 2013-2014 before Baker Mayfield took over for good this season. You may remember his best performance: he was the MVP of the 2014 Sugar Bowl and led #10 OU to a massive victory over #3 Alabama with four touchdown passes.

So why is he transferring?

OU has a pretty good QB who is a junior and unlikely to declare early for the NFL Draft because he "lacks" "measurables". Mayfield finished fourth in the Heisman voting this season so he's going to be the guy next year.

Does he mind a QB competition?

It doesn't look like it. He seems to be a pretty grounded guy. In fact, Jake Hubenak has already made nice. It seems like this will be a friendly competition.

And in case you missed it yesterday, here is his letter to fans regarding his transfer:
