In 2020, four-star high school RB E.J. Smith made a Signing Day decision between Texas A&M and Stanford, and opted for the Cardinal. But today, that wrong was finally made right, as Smith announced that he will transfer and play for the Aggies in 2024.

E.J., for those who didn’t know, is the son of Florida Gator and Dallas Cowboy legend Emmitt Smith. In addition to the family living in Texas, E.J.’s sister also played soccer for the Aggies, so the A&M ties are numerous.

Last season for Stanford, Smith had 86 touches for 460 yards and a touchdown. After entering the transfer portal back on Nov. 28 as a graduate transfer, he comes to Aggieland with two years of eligibility remaining. He joins a seemingly loaded back field with senior Amari Daniels, junior Leveon Moss and sophomore Rueben Owens.

The Aggies now have 16 total transfer players this cycle, good for No. 3 nationally (though with several players yet to receive a transfer ranking, that ranking could jump to No. 2).
