MASSIVE addition out of the portal for the Aggies

Mike Elko and Texas A&M have been on an unquestionable transfer portal heater over the past several days, and perhaps none of the most recent additions is bigger than this one, as Florida Gators transfer LB Scooby Williams has committed to the Aggies.

A top 100 recruit in the 2021 class, Williams started 11 of 12 games for the Gators in 2023 and finished third on the team in tackles. He entered the portal on Jan. 2, and commits to the Aggies just hours after his Florida teammate, CB Jaydon Hill, did the same. The Aggies hiring his LB Coach Jay Bateman to be their Defensive Coordinator probably didn’t hurt either. Williams has two years of eligibility remaining.

With the departure of Edgerrin Cooper to the NFL Draft, bringing in an SEC caliber linebacker was imperative for the Aggies, and they seemed to have done just that with Williams. While nothing is guaranteed, he would certainly seem to have the inside track to start alongside Taurean York for the Aggies at linebacker this fall. The Aggies also added Youngstown State LB Alex Howard to the fold last month.

The only other transfer for the Aggies that has seemed this significant thus far was that of Purdue DE Nic (the top edge rusher in the portal) on Thursday.

Including the addition of Williams (and the departure of Old Dominion WR Javon Harvey, who flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to Duke), the Aggies have 15 total transfer commits and maintain their No. 3 portal class rank nationally.
