Following the departures of Fadil Diggs and LT Overton to the transfer portal, Texas A&M was in need of a starting-caliber pass rusher heading into 2024, and boy did they just get one. Purdue transfer Nic Scourton, the No. 1 edge rusher in the transfer portal, has committed to Mike Elko and the Aggies.

Scourton is from Bryan, so the connections to the Aggies are obvious, but it was still no easy pull, with Florida State, Louisville and Oklahoma reportedly among the potential suitors. But A&M was his first official visit, and he apparently decided to lock things down immediately.
Originally a member of the 2022 recruiting class, Scourton was listed as a linebacker (though many projected him as a DE at the time). He has since added bulk, and in 2023 led the Big Ten in sacks. He immediately slots into a starting role at DE alongside fellow third year player Shemar Stewart, with Enai White and Malik Scylla also in the mix for reps as well.
If Mike Elko is looking for instant impact players, it’s hard to get much better than a top 10 portal player who is tops at his position, and the Aggies are likely far from done adding transfer portal players this offseason.
