5-star DL Dominick McKinley flips from Texas A&M to LSU

Top player in Louisiana decides to stay home

Texas A&M football closed out 2023 on a fitting note, as five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley announced that he has flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to LSU.

Despite remaining a commit, McKinley was viewed as a player the Aggies would struggle to keep following the coaching change. Regardless of what Mike Elko and his staff did, starting a relationship from scratch in December always meant that keeping the top player in Louisiana away from LSU was going to be a challenge. That challenge proved too great.

McKinley is ranked as the No. 27 player in the country, the No. 1 player in Louisiana and the No. 6 defensive lineman. The Aggies’ 2024 recruiting class now stands at 15 high school commits, with the only unsigned commit being five-star CB Terry Bussey. The class is ranked No. 21 in the country, though only six teams have a higher average rating per recruit.

I wouldn’t expect the Ags to make many more additions from the high school ranks (there just aren’t that many elite uncommitted players left), but they will likely continue to be active in the transfer portal as they fill out their 2024 roster.
