Aggies lose two WR commits, but gain one transfer

The wild roster ride is far from over

The roster roller coaster of the transfer portal window while leading up to signing day following a coaching change continues to be a while ride. In this particular instance for Texas A&M, the chaos is focused at the wide receiver position.

The bad news?

The Aggies have lost two WR commits in the past two days, with Jaylan Hornsby and Debron Gatling both announcing their decommitments (and Hornsby already committing to Syracuse).

Granted, these were two three-star recruits who were toward the bottom of the Aggies 2024 commitment list, so it may have been a situation where the new staff was not as enamored with them as the old one was. Or perhaps the recruits simply did not feel as comfortable with the new staff. But either way, those decommitments would appear to make an already thin WR corps even thinner in 2024.

The good news

While A&M may have lost two player from their high school class, they added one from the transfer portal on Monday with the commitment of Old Dominion’s Javon Harvey.

Over the past three seasons at ODU, Harvey has amassed 70 catches for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. While his stats don’t scream elite, he should serve as a valuable depth piece for a WR group that is in dire need of it. And it sounds like A&M may not be done taking receivers from the portal either.
