Cornerback was one of the major weaknesses of Texas A&M’s 2023 squad, and it was made even weaker in recent days due to the transfers of Tyreek Chappell and Deuce Harmon. However, new head coach Mike Elko and his staff made major strides in upgrading that unit on Sunday, securing a commitment from Kansas State transfer cornerback Will Lee.
Lee is ranked as the No. 50 overall player in the transfer portal, and the No. 4 cornerback. He was also one of the top junior college transfers a year ago, coming from Iowa Western Community College. In his lone season in Manhattan, Lee accounted for 42 tackles, six passes broken up and two interceptions. Lee has two years of eligibility remaining.
This is the first commitment of the Mike Elko era, be it from the portal or the high school ranks. Bringing in an instant-impact player at a position of need is a pretty good start.
