It was a wild weekend at Olsen Field, with 58 total runs scored between the two teams and Texas A&M overcoming a nine-run deficit on Saturday in walk-off fashion. But most importantly, despite dropping Sunday’s finale, it was yet another SEC weekend series win for the Aggies, their fifth in a row, as the regular season comes down the home stretch.
The Aggies are now 30-16 (14-10) on the season, tied with LSU for second place in the SEC West and third in the SEC overall. More importantly, A&M is rising rapidly in the rankings, and is now being projected by many as a national seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. That means that they would not only host a regional in College Station, but should they advance, they’d also host a Super Regional as well with a trip to the College World Series in Omaha on the line. If it happens, it would be the first time since 2017 that A&M has been a top 8 national seed.
The Aggies wrap up the regular season by hosting Mississippi State and traveling to Ole Miss, two teams who entered the year with high hopes (MSU is the defending national champion after all), but who currently sit near the bottom of the SEC West standings. They would then begin the SEC Tournament, with begins May 24 in Hoover, Alabama.
