Kellen Mond makes his NFL preseason debut

Gig ‘Em Kellen!

NFL: Denver Broncos at Minnesota Vikings Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

College football may still be three weeks away, but NFL preseason action has already begun, and former Aggies QB got his first pro snaps on Saturday as the Minnesota Vikings hosted the Denver Broncos.

Mond’s stats weren’t eye-popping (6 of 16 for 53 yards passing, 5 carries for 25 yards rushing), but overall he acquitted himself well in a game where the Vikings were already down multiple scores before he even entered the game. He should have gotten his first NFL touchdown pass were it not for a drop on 4th and goal by fellow rookie Whop Philyor.

Mond was selected by Minnesota in the third round of 2021 NFL Draft, but missed several days of training camp following a positive COVID-19 test. He should see the field again next Saturday, Aug. 21, when the Vikings host the Indianapolis Colts. This game could be of particular interest for Aggies and Longhorns, as it could feature Mond going up against former Texas QB Sam Ehlinger.
