Alabama Playlist: Back to Black

Odds are Stacked, I’ll Go Back to Black

OK let’s get one of the saddest songs of all time in here real quick.

Amy never wanted to be famous, she just wanted to sing. God damn could she sing.

I have been at a loss as to what to write this week. Writing something mildly humorous seems even more difficult than usual. I know, I am not that funny. Writing some scathing “burn the program down piece” seems dumb.

I had one idea about B.oy A.labama S.ucks and playing into our never ending Battered Aggie Syndrome. Then I thought, maybe I go completely off the rails, never mention A&M or Alabama once and write a 500 word piece on the early 90s band Nelson. This is the best music video ever. FIGHT ME!

The beginning of the music video is still absolutely insane, I might revisit this in the near future.

So where do we go? Well I guess back to dark places, like Amy was talking about. We are going back to black or at least back to where this article all began and give a rundown of all the songs in the list. I’m at a loss guys, something like this might work....right?

The Best- Hook N Sling

Just like back in the beginning we only start with bangers. Plus the bass will really fuck with your ear

Ya Dig- Lil Wayne

This was probably recorded back in the mid-2000s when Wayne was losing his damn mind, but man it’s a great look back when Wayne was the “Best Rapper Alive”

Hold Me Down- The Happy Fits

I have been enjoying this album for the past few months, surprised I had not shared this band yet

Prison Sex- TOOL

Definitely not an allusion to Saturday’s results

Fleetwood- Atmosphere

I loved Atmosphere’s super angry and very directed songs in my younger, angrier days. They guys still sounds great

Telepath (Dirty Projectors Version)- Manchester Orchestra

Manchester Orchestra have had such a fantastic arc as a band, and their most recent album really is great

Back to Black- Amy Winehouse

Ugh, we never got enough Amy. I love this song

Pretty Good- Nathaniel Rateliff

Nate doing a wonderful cover, off a recent John Prine tribute album. Go listen to more John Prine

Big- Tank and the Bangas

Pure. Joy.

Trouble- The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die

That was a pain in the ass to type, but the acronym TWIABP is not much easier

Days Like These- Low

Low has probably released my favorite album of the year, but the music is not exactly user friendly. But fuck it, we are trying everything this week

After the Rain- Nelson

Over 30 years later this trash ass song is such a bop

The Last Dance- St. Paul and the Broken Bones

Right on cue Paul, out of Birmingham, releases a fantastic new jam

Fancy- Reba McEntire

Reba is revisiting her hits. I didn’t include the somewhat comical club remix version, but hey who doesn’t love a song about possible borderline child prostitution?

Breather Deeper ft. Lil Yachty- Tame Impala

Just sit back and enjoy the trippy vibes, and that Fat Joe sample is lovely

Beside April- BADBADNOTGOOD

Sure, I will throw in a Canadian jazz ensemble on my weekly playlist

Red Flag Flies- Sleight Bells

Let’s just end this week with chaos

Now I remember why I stopped doing that. Enjoy the weekend, enjoy the game, it is still just football. Have fun, Be safe and BTHO alabama!
