We may be more than a month away from the SEC season beginning, but we got some stuff to talk about today when the USA Today released the Amway Coaches Poll preseason top 25. Texas A&M comes in at #13, and somewhat frighteningly, sixth in the SEC behind Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida and Auburn. But we all know what’s really important.

Texas A&M is 13. Texas is 14.

Others receiving votes: Tennessee 111; Boise State 111; Arizona State 88; Kentucky 73; Memphis 71; Baylor 66; Washington 65; Louisville 62; Miami 58; Appalachian State 31; Navy 17; Virginia 13; Air Force 12; Mississippi State 9; Texas Christian 7; Washington State 6; Tulane 5; California 5; UL Lafayette 3; Southern Methodist 3; Nebraska 3; Stanford 2; Pittsburgh 1; Kansas State 1; Indiana 1; Duke 1

A&M being somewhat high in these rankings isn’t surprising since they have the most returning production in the SEC, including senior QB Kellen Mond. And the softer schedule seemed to also play in A&M’s favor, though we’ll see what the 10-game, conference-only schedule will do to affect that notion.

This is the first time since 2014 that A&M has been ranked ahead of Texas in the preseason Coaches Poll top 25.
