3-star Tackle Matthew Wykoff commits to Texas A&M

A Texas A&M commitment is always a good way to start of the week, and one from an offensive lineman is even better. The Aggies got just that on this fine Monday when they secured a pledge from three-star Magnolia tackle Matthew Wykoff.

The 6’5”, 304-pound Wykoff committed to A&M over scholarship offers from Texas, Notre Dame, USC, Penn State, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Auburn, among many others. He is ranked by 247 Sports as the #34 offensive tackle, the #56 recruit in Texas and the #386 recruit nationally in the 2021 class (it should be noted that 247 has the top 341 recruits rated with four stars, so it is not unfeasible that Wykoff would get that fourth star before the recruiting cycle ends).

The Aggies now have eight commits in the 2021 class, including two tackles, which is ranked 24th in the country. But rankings this early are more about quantity than quality. The teams currently in the top 10 have an average of almost 14 commits, and Alabama’s class is currently ranked 42nd, if that tells you what to think about team recruiting rankings in June.
