The Aggie internet was set abuzz earlier this week when Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond seemingly confirmed what many have been asking for: a return to the team’s uniforms of the ‘90s and ‘00s.

This was seemingly confirmed (or at least not denied) when A&M Athletic Director was brought into the mix.

So it got me wondering, if the Aggies are indeed returning to a simpler uniform, what might it look like? First, let’s re-examine the uniform they’ve worn since 2012:

The most notable aspect of this uniform are the matte helmet with a gray facemask, the stripes going from the neck to the sleeve, beveled numbers and a single pant stripe. While much of this would likely be abandoned, in a return to a more straightforward look, I think there are some aspects that would likely carry forward. Most notably, the font used for the numbers as well as the “TEXAS A&M” across the chest. This font has been used across the athletic department on just about every team uniform, so it would be surprising to see them go away from it completely. The bevel is likely gone, but the font will almost certainly remain. The lone star logo on the pants is another mark become heavily used across the athletic department, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see that stay. So now let’s try to marry these elements with the 1998 throwback everyone loves so much.

For many fans, this is the look that defines Aggie Football. Glossy maroon helmet with white facemask, simple maroon jersey with a large “TEXAS A&M” across the chest, and plain white pants. But the font used goes past simple and more into the “generic” category. And the faux mesh treatment, while fun for a throwback, would not make sense for a pernament uniform. So with that in mind, I give you...

I feel like this uniform gives the best of both worlds, a bit of the #branding of the most recent uniform, with the overall aesthetic of the old. Here’s a mockup of the road version as well:
