Texas A&M cruised to a comfortable if not sloppy 28-14 victory in Starkville on Saturday, and 7) was rewarded by entering the top 10 in both the Associated Press Top 25 (No. 7) as well as the USA Today Coaches Poll (No. 9).
In the AP poll, A&M leapfrogged idle teams like Florida, Cincinnati and Penn State, and also benefitted from No. 5 North Carolina getting upset by Florida State. In the Coaches Poll, Florida and Penn State both remained ahead of the Aggies (the Florida ranking being particularly puzzling).
The Aggies will likely retain their rankings for at least one more week, with a bye week scheduled for Oct. 24. They’ll then host a Halloween tilt versus Arkansas at Kyle Field that suddenly looks like a lot more of a challenge than it did before the season started.
