Kellen Mond named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

A well-deserved honor

NCAA Football: Florida at Texas A&M Scott Wachter-USA TODAY Sports

Kellen Mond had perhaps the most complete game of his career on Saturday in Texas A&M’s 41-38 win over fourth-ranked Florida, and that performance was rewarded on Monday when Mond was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week along with Alabama RB Najee Harris.

Kellen’s 338 yards passing is the third-highest total of his career, and the best since throwing for 353 against South Carolina in 2018. His 71.4% completion percentage is the best of his career in games with at least 25 pass attempts. Most importantly, he answered his critics by playing a turnover-free game and connecting on several downfield throws, most notably two 50+ yards bombs to Caleb Chapman.

This is the kind of performance we knew Kellen was capable of, and every bit of it was needed to get perhaps the biggest win of the Jimbo Fisher era in Aggieland. But consistency has been a problem throughout his A&M career, so now let’s see if he can stack another one on top of it this Saturday in Starkville.
