In their penultimate SEC road series, the Aggie pitching staff will absolutely have their hands full

It’s Week 7 of the conference portion of the schedule, and the race to the SEC crown is still as tight as ever. Those that were hoping to gain a bit more clarity out of last weekend were slightly disappointed, as there are still eight teams within two games of their respective division leaders. With their 2-1 series win over South Carolina last weekend, the Aggies remained just a half game out of first in the West. However, with Arkansas’ sweep of Mississippi State, the Hogs leapfrogged A&M into the top spot.

Moving on to this weekend, the Ags will face yet another ranked SEC West opponent, as they travel to Oxford to take on No. 19 Ole Miss. The Rebels (27-15, 10-8) have dropped two consecutive series, and now find themselves tied with Auburn and State for fourth in the division.

At the plate, Ole Miss is led by OF Ryan Olenek (.364/.436/.476, 1 HR, 26 RBIs), SS Grae Kissenger (.349/.449/.503, 4 HR, 34 RBIs), and 3B Tyler Keenan (.301/.431/.532, 10 HR, 51 RBIs). Additionally, 1B/DH Cole Zabowski and OF Thomas Dillard each have nine homers on the season, with Dillard racking up a 1.020 OPS and drawing a team-leading 40 walks. As a team, the Rebels are, on paper, the best offensive team for A&M to face to this point since their series against Vandy back in March. The only offensive categories that Ole Miss ranks outside the top five in the SEC are doubles (eighth), triples (sixth), sac bunts (last), and sac flies (13th). And logically, the only reason they rank so low in the sacrifice departments is likely because they rank third in steals (no bunts required), and they simply score their runners with hits (fifth).
