With the move of the Texas State game to Aug. 29, we are officially 23 weeks from the beginning of the Texas A&M Aggies’ 2019 season. But we reached another milestone yesterday with the beginning of spring practice, leading up to the Maroon & White Game on Saturday, April 13.
I’m not going to sit here and overstate the importance of spring practice. It’s great for players to continue to get reps, to better familiarize themselves with new coaches, and for new players to learn the system in a practical way. But from a fan’s perspective, there’s not a lot to glean. We probably won’t know who the backup quarterback will be. We won’t know which freshman will push for playing time. We won’t know which upperclassmen are poised to take the next step into a starring role. There will be a lot of practice videos that ultimately mean very little from the outside looking in. But as Jimbo likes to say, you have to find the crumbs, and in the middle of the college football offseason, sometimes even just practice clips can be a tasty morsel.
Enjoy some practice footage from Aggie Yell as well as press conference clips of Jimbo Fisher and Kellen Mond, and take solace in the fact that spring ball means we’re another small step closer to another football season.
