The top 12 maroon shoes you need for Aggie football season

Tailgating meets high fashion is our key demographic

Anyone that follows me on Twitter (shameless plug: @rcb05) has probably learned the hard way that I have a thing for sneakers. Always have. And that love for sneakers occasionally bleeds into my love for Aggie football, specifically for gameday attire. There are no shortage of maroon shoes out there, but I’ve compiled a list of my 12 (#branding) favorites as we prepare for yet another season of tailgating and football in College Station. Since A&M is an Adidas school, this list is pretty three-stripes-heavy, but I didn’t limit myself to just the one brand.

DISCLAIMER: This is just my opinion, and some of these shoes are expensive and probably not in the price range of what you want to spend on a pair of shoes for gameday. I’m not telling you what you should be wearing, I’m just here talkin’ shoes.

12. Adidas Speed Trainer 4

This is one of two “official” shoes that are issued to the football team. They’re maroon, relatively affordable and decently comfortable, if not the most stylish shoe you’ve ever seen.

11. Adidas EQT Mid ADV Primeknit

If the mouthful of a name doesn’t drive you away, these shoes are known for their comfort with the sock-like primeknit upper.

10. Vans Old Skool

A timeless classic you can wear with almost anything.

9. Converse Chuck 70 High Top

Not everyone can pull off high tops with shorts, but it’s hard not to love this vintage Chuck Taylor.

8. Adidas Alphabounce Beyond

Another team-issued shoe from Adidas. This iteration of the Alphabounce is a big upgrade visually from last year’s model, and the bounce support system is known to be very comfortable.

7. Adidas Stan Smith

Another classic silhouette that goes with virtually any attire.

6. Jordan 6 Retro

Would I ever actually wear this shoe to an A&M game? Probably not. But it has maroon and it’s my favorite childhood shoe so you get it on this list.

5. Adidas Pureboost

The first shoe on this list with a boost midsole, easily the most comfortable cushion setup on the market. While there are more outlandish colorways with maroon/burgundy, I love this one with the pop of color on the heel counter.

4. Adidas I-5923

Formerly known as the Iniki, this is a stylish casual shoe with a boost midsole and lots of colorways to choose from. In particular, these three lend themselves well to A&M attire.

3. Nike Air Max 97

Is this a women’s shoe? Yes. Do I particulary care? No. The Air Max 97 continues to be one of the most popular Air Maxes ever released, and this maroon colorway is fire.

2. Adidas NMD R1 Champs Exclusive

The NMD is one of Adidas’ most popular shoes of the past few years, and this wool gray with hits of maroon is one of the best versions of it I’ve seen.

1. Adidas Ultraboost 2.0 Texas A&M

Ultraboost is the most comfortable sneaker I’ve ever put on my feet, so of course the Texas A&M-issued version from 2016 is at the top of my list. While the white outsole can be a nightmare, it’s hard not to love such a fantastic overall shoe.

Honestly if you’re still reading, I’m amazed. Thanks for indulging me with this list, and let me know in the comments if you have any favorite gameday shoes, either on your wish list or in your collection.
