It’s been a rough past few years for Johnny Manziel, but 2018 has been mostly good news for the former Texas A&M Heisman winner. He’s been vocal about his attention to his mental health, he’s gotten married, and he returned to football both in the NFL’s Spring League, and more recently north of the border in the CFL.
Up until now, Manziel’s time in Canada has been spent on the bench, but after a trade from the Hamilton Tiger Cats to the Montreal Alouettes last week, that’s about to change. This Friday, Johnny Football will play actual professional football for the first time since 2015.

Johnny will take the reins as the Alouettes take on his former team, the Hamilton Tiger Cats, this Friday, Aug. 3. And even better news for Aggies fans, the game will be televised on ESPN2 beginning at 6:30 p.m. (central time).
I, for one, will be glued to the TV this Friday night, hoping to catch a glimpse of the magical play we got spoiled watching in 2012 and 2013. But even if Johnny is never the player he once was, just seeing him on the field will be a joy, because most of us thought he’d never make it back here again. By all accounts, he is healthy and is happy, and he’s finding ways to manage his demons. Any football success is gravy.
I don’t think anyone has a good handle on how this will go on Friday, but as is always the case with Johnny, it promises to be entertaining. Let the #ComebackSZN continue.
