It’s cold, it’s wet, it’s finally autumn. Warm yourselves with bye week taeks.
AGGIES BEAT COCKS, RISE IN POLLS. Texas A&M is inching back up the top 25 after a pretty brutal September stretch. Keep an eye out this week, beating BYE is almost always beneficial to ranked teams at this stage in the season.
NOTORIOUS T.O.P. Forgive us if we’re a bit hesitant to put too much stock into gloating over time of possession (perhaps we’ve been burned with the overstated significance of this number in the past). But look: it’s one thing for a coach to brag about how much his team controls the clock while eking out 7 wins a year in the Big 12. It’s another thing to see it as just one more piece in a bigger puzzle: Texas A&M beat South Carolina on Saturday because the Gamecock defense was worn the hell out. Their defense was on the field for over twice as long as the Aggie defense (their worst T.O.P. in 15 years!), and that final TD drive of 5+ minutes was the payoff and the clincher. It ain’t sexy, but it works.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OF GIFTS
If you missed the Arkansas/Ole Miss game Saturday night, you missed some oddly compelling and addictive ugly football. Arkansas blew a big lead...again...and scrappy non-bowl-game-going Ole Miss is somehow sitting at 5-2 on the year. But the most memorable moment of the entire night was something altogether different that will live on vivaciously on the college football internet for months to come.
