Texas A&M drops a heartbreaker at Kentucky

The referees missed a game changing foul call late, but we didn’t do ourselves any favors down the stretch

I’m torn.

On one hand, I feared the worst. I feared that a (mostly) healthy team would return for their first (mostly) full-strength game in weeks... and get absolutely crushed, proving that we had some real, unsolvable problems. That clearly didn’t happen, which is nice.

On the other hand, we should have won a game in Rupp Arena. This Kentucky team is not that great, and we showed up completely unafraid and playing at a level that should have a yielded a W. Unfortunately, it all fell apart down the stretch, when we submitted two bad turnovers and a 2-6 stretch from the free throw line in the last two minutes.

We rallied and forced two turnovers late, leading to this last-second mugging that went uncalled.

Next up is a trip to #24 Tennessee this Saturday, before a sorely needed run of four out of five conference games at home.

On a larger note, I’m not ready to pack this season in. We had more talent than Kentucky tonight, and there appears to be a power void in the conference for the time being. If we can get healthy and get our minds right, this is more than salvageable.

Don’t give up on these guys yet.
