JIMBO FISHER RETURNS TEXAS A&M FOOTBALL TO TOP 25 PROMINENCE

The Aggies begin their climb in the polls.

They say money can’t buy you happiness. Well, it can buy you a new coach, and for most people, that’s pretty much the same thing for a little while. Apparently it can also purchase a bit of credibility in the sporting press as well. Jimbo Fisher made a splash with his $75 million hire and went straight to work on the recruiting trail and now all that hard work is paying off. Texas A&M Football is clearly improved despite him never coaching a game yet. He’s feeling what is known as The Tom Herman Effect.

Last week, Sporting News (the only college football outlet that matters) released their Way Too Early Top 25, and guess who made the list? If you guessed Texas A&M, you were correct. The Aggies snuck in at #25 just behind Texas, South Carolina, and Memphis. Technically that’s last on the list, but hey, it’s better than Sumlin could do, right?

You may dismiss Sporting News, home to such headlines as “Mississippi State fans chant ‘UCF!’ at Auburn basketball game” and “When did your team last win a national title in football?”, but that would be hasty. Their way-too-early list may indeed be quite staggeringly early, but as they are happy to point out,

Keep in mind that last year’s way-too-early top 25 had all four playoff teams — and four New Year’s Day Six teams — in the top 10.

Whoa there, Nostradamus! Pretty amazing stuff.

Jimbo Fisher is definitely building a Top 1 Program, and he’s going to get us there one rankings list at a time, or until some actual football gets played. Whichever comes first.

Remember, ladies and gentlemen: all preseason polls are useless, except for the ones that paint your team in the most positive light.
