Hey! Hope you’ve made it out of the myriad freeways and concrete apocalypse of LA and back home to Texas. The football team is back on home turf this weekend, and yesterday the 12th Man Foundation sent out this handy email giving us all a complete and thorough rundown on what to expect for Saturday’s GameDay Experience™
Game Day Information
The 2017 Texas A&M football season is finally here! Please see the information below for some important updates to help you have a fun and safe game day!
The 12th Man Foundation, in coordination with the Texas A&M Athletics Department, has been working tirelessly this offseason with current student-athletes, Yell Leaders, band members, current and former students, game day staff, and many others to receive feedback to enhance the Kyle Field game day experience for the team and Aggies in attendance.
Please review the information below closely, as it could potentially impact your pre- and post-game experience. The list below is not exhaustive, so please visit gameday.12thman.com for all the details about game day at Kyle Field.
So far, so good. Just a heads-up for some helpful information. Love football! Love gamedays!
Pre-Game Information & Updates
ROAD CLOSURES
New road closures to enhance pedestrian safety will affect parking and tailgating for those in lots B, C, D, E, G, and P. Please click here for more information and detailed maps.
TAILGATING
Recreational Generators can now be utilized anywhere on campus, including Aggie Park. The noise level for a recreational generator should not exceed 80db.
Click here for tailgating rules, maps, FAQs, and more.
For reference, 80 decibels is roughly as loud as a garbage disposal or the 12th Man’s grumbling when the offense runs two straight fade routes on first and goal from the 3 yard line.
PEPSI AGGIE FAN ZONE
The Pepsi Aggie Fan Zone is located on the North side of Kyle Field and opens 3 1/2 hours prior to kickoff. It features food, fun and more for the entire family.
Food trucks will be located adjacent to Lot A, located on the west side of the stadium.
Charging stations will be located throughout the Fan Zone to help keep your devices charged and ready to go on game day.
Food trucks! Take that, Tom Herman. Austin doesn’t have the market cornered on pretentious, overpriced cuisine anymore. Also of note here: be sure to take advantage of the device chargers. You want to be CERTAIN that your fire Sumlin tweets reach the audience they deserve once you’re inside Kyle Field and we have to punt for the first time.
SPIRIT WALK
Spirit walk will begin on the North end of Houston St., near Koldus parking garage.
No one actually knows what this is.
KIDS YELL
Kids Yell will take place by the 12th Man Statue at the northeast corner of Kyle Field.
It’s like a live re-enactment of TexAgs during a football game.
30/60 MINUTE COUNTDOWN NOTIFICATION
Don't miss a single snap! 60 minutes and 30 minutes prior to kickoff, we will notify everyone on campus from Kyle Field of the remaining time until kickoff.
You know, in case you forgot the entire reason you came into town.
CLEAR BAGS
Texas A&M has enacted a clear bag policy across all ticketed venues. This policy includes Midnight Yell Practice.
One bag is allowed per person, and bags must be clear and not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”. Or bags can be a clear 1-gallon re-sealable freezer storage bag.
If needed, lockers are available to rent across from the stadium inside Rudder Tower.
Visit 12thMan.com/BeClear for more information regarding this policy.
You can still get hooch into the building if you know how to be creative, friends.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
Prohibited items include:
Purses, bags & backpacks that do not adhere to the 12-1-1 bag policy.
Artificial noise makers
Food
Beverages (including alcoholic beverages), except one sealed clear plastic bottle of water
Firearms (Kyle Field is exempt from recent concealed carry state legislation during athletics events)
Tobacco products (of any kind)
Ice chests
Umbrellas
Strollers
Pets
Stadium seats in excess of 16 inches
Unauthorized banners, signs, or flags
Shit, last I checked this was still AMERICA, smh
UBER - THE PREFERRED RIDE OF TEXAS A&M ATHLETICS
Beat the parking lot blitz at the Uber Zone in Lot 30E, near Albritton Bell Tower, and make your getaway fumble-free.
Uber rookie? Download the free Uber app and enter the code 12THMAN for $20 off your first ride.
With rides at the tap of a button, Uber is the perfect post-game getaway.
Sorry, no discounts for leaving during the 2nd quarter.
In-Game Information & Updates
ENHANCED IN-GAME EXPERIENCE
To help create a more organic experience that allows for the natural ebb and flow of momentum and excitement, the following changes have been made:
Reduced number of in-game sponsorships
Reduced number of on-field presentations
New in-game programming that allows for spontaneous involvement from the Aggie Band and Yell Leaders
Oh boy. Bit of a conflicting message here. When I go to an A&M game and take in the between-football-action experience, the last thing that comes to mind is “organic” and “natural ebb and flow.” You can’t pre-program an entire six-hour event down to the second and pretend that it’s not pre-programmed down to the second just because the placement of the timeouts aren’t scripted. Also, you can’t use “programming” and “spontaneous” in the same sentence like that. It’s...just not how it works. Also guessing that the “reduced sponsorship” initiative was not exactly voluntarily done out of goodwill.
CONCESSIONS
The price for a 20-ounce bottle of water has been reduced to $2 at concession stands inside the stadium.
Or you can bring a gallon (128 ounces) in for free. Your choice, obviously.
Grab your fellow Aggies and save with the $25 Value Pack for 4 hot dogs, 4 drinks and a popcorn to share at the following concessions locations:
North Side: Level 7 Sec 426
East Side: Level 3 Sec 232
South Side: Level 2 Sec 132, Level 4 Sec 244
West Side: Field Box Level - Hall of Champions North, Level 7 Sec 310
Ah, a tradition like no other. Similar to when you used to hold a lighter aloft at Midnight Yell when searching for a mugdown partner, simply raise your credit card in the air, and a fellow hungry spectator will flock to you and together you can make your way to one of the listed concession points and enjoy this wonderful feast together.
WATER ALLOWED IN THE STADIUM
Fans may bring in 1 clear, unopened plastic water bottle, up to 1 gallon in size. There are many fountains inside the stadium to refill bottles.
(note that this appears after the part about paying $2 for a bottle of water)
AGASSIST
If you need assistance or have a concern during the game, text “AgAssist” to 99000 to report items in a convenient way.
While we strive to make Kyle Field the most intimidating atmosphere in college football, we must adhere to a Code of Conduct to ensure safety and sportsmanship. If you see anyone acting out of line with the Code of Conduct, please text AgAssist.
Folks, please do NOT text AgAssist asking when Sumlin is going to be fired. That’s not what it’s for.
Post-Game Information & Updates
ROAD CLOSURES
Several streets both on- and off-campus, along with certain directional traffic off campus, are closed for time increments following the game. See this map for details.
POST-GAME TRAFFIC ROUTE
As you make plans to leave on game day, please refer to the maps on this page to learn your best route.
Also, if we lose this game, expect complete and total apocalypse. Street closures will be the least of your worries.
AT&T SERVICE ON CAMPUS
For this weekend's game against Nicholls State, there will be a significant degradation in AT&T service on campus. The tailgating areas will likely experience the most problems, particularly with retries of texting, calls, and data connections.
WHAT, THIS IS BULLSHIT HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FIRE OFF TAEKS ABOUT THE HORRIBLE PLAYCALLING AND BAD TACKLING WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY BRAGGING ABOUT HOW CLASSY THE FANS AND ATMOSPHERE ARE WHAT THE HELL DID WE PAY A HALF A BILLION DOLLARS FOR WE DESERVE A BETTER GAMEDAY EXPERIENCE
