FOOTBALL CAMP TIEM

You said it, Jon. But these Aggie players camp out in some state-of-the-art luxury wildnerness areas. Don’t forget your talkabout repellent, boys. Those beat reporters are relentless in this August heat.

SPEAKING OF “TALK ABOUT” AND AUGUST AND FADING IN NOVEMBER AND OH HELL I JUST GOT ALL MY REFERENCES JUMBLED UP IN ONE BIG MESS

Kevin Sumlin spent his birthday yesterday answering reporters’ questions for an hour. What a wonderful gift! Truly it keeps on giving, and giving, and giving. The ultimate content cornucopia. Guess what! They asked him about being shitty in November. Because perhaps as a highly-paid coach at a major football program with serious late-season issues, he hasn’t caught on yet and tried to fix it. One possible solution was presented in particular: practice more indoors! What did The Eagle think about that?

Wait for it...

How ironic would it be if the heat comes off Sumlin by taking the Aggies out of the heat?

SO WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?

Saturday Down South lays it all out:

First, create absurdly unreasonable expectations by writing an article with this headline.

Yeah, no pressure there. But seriously, there are some good points in the article, which focuses mainly on running the cot dang ball better. Just soak this in for a minute

Texas A&M finished with the SEC’s sixth-best rushing offense in 2016, but the month-by-month breakdown is telling.

September: 269.25 YPG (1st SEC; 4-0 record)

October: 229 YPG (5th SEC, 3-1 record)

November: 154.24 YPG (13th SEC; 1-3 record)

Shit. And two of the November games were the Mississippi schools. Gotta do way better than that.

But we knew all that. We all know that lots of things have to get way better and that reports coming out of practice for the next few weeks will all be glowing: this player is doing much better this year, that player got down to his ideal weight, this other freshman over here looks JUST LIKE some other famous standout Heisman candidate from another program. The next few weeks are just cheap hotdog filler when it comes to substantial and meaningful news. The real cuts won’t come out to the table until September. This is just a time for everyone to readjust their TAEK-ometers in a meaningless setting before we get into the groove. Practice makes perfect. Enjoy it.

I have been banned from campus during fall camp after being busted hiding in the bushes one too many times trying to see if what’s-his-name is going to be the next superstar like the pay sites said.
