Alex Caruso outshines lottery picks in NBA summer league game

Lonzo who?

NBA: Summer League-Los Angeles Lakers at Sacramento Kings Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

A nice little rivalry has developed between NBA lottery picks Lonzo Ball and De’Aaron Fox. So many, including Fox, were disappointed to learn that a groin injury would keep Ball out of the Los Angeles Lakers / Sacramento Kings summer league matchup, which would have pitted the two star point guards against one another (insert joke about Big Baller shoe namesake injuring groin). So who started at point guard for the Lakers in Ball’s place? Just some white former Texas A&M ball boy named Alex Caruso.

Caruso then proceeded to outshine virtually everyone on the floor, most notably Fox, scoring 19 points, including 4 out of 5 from three-point range, while also dropping nine assists in route to a 95-92 Lakers win. Caruso even rejected a De’Aaron Fox layup, and later had a steal that led to a fastbreak alley-oop. Not a bad day for the former Texas A&M player.
