TOM ‘n’ KEV: BFF. Did u know that the Longhorns and Aggies used to play each other in football and now each of them have a head coach that came from the same school right before getting hired for the big gig and also they both like breakfast tacos and raps and et cetera, et. al.? No it’s true—Tom Herman and Kevin Sumlin used to be neighbors and despite all the nonsense existential fluff surrounding the hype of Herman’s hire and the jaded, dispassionate malaise surrounding Sumlin’s tenure thus far, manage to remain friendly and share a healthy respect for one another. Would it be more entertaining if they engaged in subtweet battles that were “too good” or dissed each other hardcore on social media? Eh, maybe. More than likely it would just be tiresome and forced. Like Tom Herman’s “coolness.” It’s almost refreshing to see civility and quiet between respected colleagues. Now if Mike Sherman and Charlie Strong wanted to engage in a shouting match on Twitter we’d be all about that lit-up feud.
CONFIDENCE MAN. Trevor Knight was a blast to watch last year. It was a season of ups and downs, but the journeyman QB gave us that extra spark when he was in there that gave the offense just enough edge to be dangerous at the right times. Sure, he might blaze a 4-yard dig route into the earth’s crust at 2000 mph, but then on the next play he’d execute a perfect zone read through the heart of the Tennessee defense for the go-ahead 60-yard touchdown. He deserves all the best, and now he’s making the most of it at NFL minicamp. Gig ‘em, TK.
LAST CHANCE U. Wide receiver and Oregon transfer Kirk Merritt was in the news a while back for all the wrong reasons. Now he’s headed to East Mississippi Community College. Hopefully the kid can get it together.
That’s all we got for this Monday. Have a good one.
