PERCEPTION IS EVERYTHING: Which is the better job, Texas A&M or Florida State?

LET US QUANTIFY NEBULOUS THINGS

It’s the mini-offseason. Still a month away from bowl games and no Aggie Football to watch, for those folks still actively watching the game portion of the saga. So what do we do?

It’s not enough that Aggies are smack-dab in the middle of this year’s biggest coaching drama. No. We must argue about constructs within that specific drama, such as the perception of whether or not one ridiculously demanding, highly-lucrative coaching perception is “better” than another.

It’s honestly surprising it took this long for this particular avenue of channeled rage and indignation to open up, but now that it has, Ags across the cyberspectrum are bristling with umbrage. HOW DARE SOMEONE THINK IN DIFFERENT TERMS THAN I DO IN A RIDICULOUSLY FUTILE ATTEMPT TO QUANTIFY SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T REALLY HAVE A BEARING ON ANYTHING ANYWAY.!?

No, but you see it’s all OPTICS and we must own the PERCEPTION in order to help control the NARRATIVE. It’s simple college football business, really. Just sign on to social media for a crash refresher course.

The cacophony is near its peak now, with the A&M Board of Regents meeting tomorrow morning, presumably somewhere with tank-friendly parking. One last day of online crusading about what job is better or if new money extravagance outweighs an actual pedigree. Soon we’ll have to return to our fallback outlet of discussion: actual football.

SO WHICH IS THE BETTER COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACHING JOB?

Destination

One is located in a humid expanse of swampy suburbia full of strip malls and McMansions; the other is in Florida.

Edge: A&M

Money

One is the country club elite, living out their days in total comfort and isolated from most of the world to hide a secretly shrinking portfolio; the other is desperate to be there and throws money at anything to increase their standing.

Edge: A&M

History

One has a very recent national championship and has dominated its conference for decades. The other claims phantom conference titles.

Edge: FSU

Online Presence

One has Aggie Twitter, one prefers #TalkinBoutTheNoles.

Edge: Earth’s impending doomsday

SO WHICH IS IT?
