Daily Bull 11.20.17: Damion Ratley is finishing strong.

The season is almost over. This senior is making the most of it.

NCAA Football: Auburn at Texas A&M Erich Schlegel-USA TODAY Sports

Heading into the Auburn game, Damion Ratley hadn’t scored a touchdown in over two years, since October 3rd, 2015 against Mississippi State. In the past three weeks he’s basically matched his yardage total from the first eight games and gone on a tear since November 4th:

receptions: 12

yards: 251

touchdowns: 5

One thing (of many) the offense has been missing this year has been a dependable foil to Christian Kirk. Another legitimate threat to take advantage of the double teams #3 draws and to help spread the opposing secondaries out. RSJ, Josh Reynolds, and Speedy Noil were gone, and what was left was just a void and a lonely Kirk, with a few freshmen and role players stepping up occasionally.

It’s another sad November. Change is heavy on the air and the season has been laced with disappointment again. The team is heading to Baton Rouge needing a very tough result just to get back to the “mediocre” baseline of 8 wins. The bright spots in 2017 have been few and far between, but the resurgence of Damion Ratley this month has been a pleasure to watch. Here’s a senior stepping up and making the most of his last few games, and no one is running a hotter slant route right now. He notched his first 100-yard game in Oxford, so keep an eye on #4 this week if you’re still watching the football part of this season.
