No. 1 DUAL QB Tate Martell decommits from the Texas A&M Aggies

After expressing the desire to take numerous visits before National Signing Day 2017, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman quarterback Tate Martell decommitted from the Texas A&M Aggies on Wednesday evening, putting the Aggies officially in the market for a signal caller in the current cycle.

The 5'10.5, 203-pounder is a significant loss for the class, as he's considered a consensus five-star prospect, the No. 33 player nationally, the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback, and No. 1 player in the state of Nevada. In fact, only two quarterbacks are currently rated more highly than Martell and both are committed to national powers and quarterbacks typically take a lead role in recruiting efforts.

A recent visit to Ohio State and those plans to visit other schools portended the decision and an April trip to College Station wasn't enough to sway his decision.

Considering that Texas A&M offered San Clemente (Calif.) quarterback Jack Sears a little more than two weeks ago and made a recent visit to IMG Academy in Florida to see Baylor quarterback Kellen Mond, it's safe to say that the staff at least made plans to deal with this eventuality.

Now it's here and Sears, rated as a consensus four-star prospect and the No. 14 pro-style passer nationally, is the only uncommitted quarterback currently holding an offer from the Aggies. So expect the A&M staff to continue evaluating other options during the spring and perhaps extend an offer or two.
