Late Weekend Preview: Aggie Baseball Hosts UGA

A day late, but not a dollar short. Because that sounds bad.

Last night, Brigham Hill and the Ags blanked the Georgia Bulldogs, 5-0, and snapped a four game losing streak. In the process, they took down one of the SEC's best pitchers in Robert Tyler, who came into the weekend sporting a 3-1 record and a 2.40 ERA. He was also coming off of a near no-hitter last weekend against Alabama.

This afternoon, Jace Vines will take the hill looking to avenge his poor start last Sunday against Florida. His ERA has ballooned all the way up to 4.37, but he just didn't look like himself last weekend. Maybe that's because he was pushed back to Sunday, maybe he was still feeling some of the effects from the illness, or maybe both. At any rate, this pitching staff seems to have their stuff together at home, and this should prove to be a good bounce back opportunity for Vines.

They'll be going up against Georgia's Connor Jones, who sports a 4-1 record and a 5.08 ERA. Last weekend against Alabama, he pitched a career high 7.2 innings, while allowing four runs on six hits and two walks. He also struck out six Alabama hitters.

As of today, only two Georgia hitters have batting averages of .300 or greater: Trevor Kieboom and Skyler Webber. The Georgia lineup, however, does have some pop in their bats. OF Keegan McGovern and C Michael Curry have both hit five home runs apiece, and 1B/DH Daniel Nichols has hit four of his own.

Neither team has announced a Sunday starter, but either Kyle Simonds or Ryan Hendrix could take the ball. Both pitchers had trouble with the Gators last weekend, and both will be looking to get back on track whenever they get into this series, which will almost certainly happen.
