Question: What, exactly, is Friday Night Lights?
Answer: Well, according to Wikipedia, Friday Night Lights is an American drama television series about a high school football team in the fictional town of Dillon, Texas. The show uses this small town backdrop to address many issues facing contemporary American culture including including family values, school funding, racism, drugs, and lack of economic opportunities.
That's . . . fascinating.
It is! Somewhat closer to home, A&M will be holding a combination scrimmage and recruiting event at Kyle Field this Friday night at 8pm. This is the 5th year in a row the Aggies will be hosting FNL, and past recruit attendees include guys like Myles Garrett and Otaro Alaka, so the coaching staff will be doing their best job to entertain.
Can I go?
You can! Fans will be allowed to sit in the West Side first deck, and if you try to film anything with your camera Mike McKenzie will personally hunt you down you will be kindly escorted out of the stadium.
Will there be a DJ this year?
Unfortunately he has been banished until the rushing defense can be ranked with only two digits.
What should I look for?
Quarterback play, for one. This will be the public's first chance to see how well Trevor Knight and Jake Hubenak have mastered the new-look A&M offense under Noel Mazzone. The offensive line should be interesting as well, as Jim Turner continues to mix and match with several players out.
Defensively, watch for who gets the most snaps at corner, along with the age old question: how many times can Armani Watts beat a linebacker with a 10 yard head start to his gap? Probably most of them!
So there will be recruits in attendance?
You betcha. Don't talk to them.
Coming off what can charitably be described as a rather lackluster close to the recruiting class, Kevin Sumlin and his retooled staff are desperate for momentum on the recruiting trail. They've managed to assemble quite the #GigemGang crew, the entirety of which you will have to read about on recruiting sites, which are very angry and proprietary with information, presumably because they text with 17 year olds all day and have lost touch with rational thought.
We do know, thanks to our crack social media interns, that the following are expected to be in attendance:
Considered by some the #1 player in the country, Houston defensive tackle Marvin Wilson.

Expect about 100 of the best class of 2017 and 2018 prospects from around the state, including a select few underclassman and out-of-state guests.
Can I tweet at the recruits?
No.
What if I see them out, just being friendly and stuff?
No.
But what if they approach me and-
NO. Good god man, you have children. Stop it.
Sigh. Fine. Anything else I should know?
They usually don't look for a flask inside your boot at these things. Enjoy.
