Men's Basketball takes down #14 Kentucky 79-77 in Overtime

We won a big game at home!

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

This is fun. This team is fun. Texas A&M men's basketball prevailed Saturday night on the biggest stage for College Basketball; with College Gameday in town, and against the juggernaut of the SEC, the Kentucky Wildcats.  Objectively, it was a great back and forth game with many lead changes and clutch moments all the way through overtime.

Towards the end of the overtime, all appeared to be over as Texas A&M committed an offensive foul after Collins missed a shot with 9 seconds left down one; until freshmen forward Isaac Humphries slammed the ball to the court.  The referees promptly awarded Humphries a technical foul, and sent him to the bench with 5 fouls.  Danuel House made both free throws to give the Aggies a 77-76 lead.  Kentucky tied it up missing the back end of two free throws.  Out of the timeout, House drove the ball and missed his shot, but freshman Tyler Davis was there with the put back at the buzzer to give the Aggies the victory.

Kentucky remains on top of the SEC standings, but Texas A&M moved into third place after South Carolina held on to beat the Florida Gators, and LSU lost to a scrappy Tennessee team.  Texas A&M's chances to win the SEC have greatly improved as the back end of the schedule sets up nicely for a run with Mississippi State at home, @Missouri , @Auburn and Vanderbilt to finish out the season.  Meanwhile, the Kentucky Wildcats face Alabama at home, @Vanderbilt (tough place to play), @Florida, and LSU.  The Aggies would also need South Carolina to lose to have a chance to win the SEC.  Regardless, the Aggies are still in it, and just won a huge game keeping them in the hunt.

Shoutout to the students and fans that showcased how special Reed Arena is to the College Game Day crew and to the nation.  The crowd was rocking all night and was involved throughout the game.  Texas A&M can be a basketball school, and tonight went a long way to prove that.

When this team could have folded after a five game SEC losing streak, it did not.  It is not always pretty, and can be downright frustrating at times with lineups and substitutions; but this team continues to fight. If this team gets hot again going into March, anything can happen.  Enjoy this win.  Enjoy this team. Von Miller does.

Thanks and Gig 'Em.
