Texas A&M OF Nick Banks Named to Golden Spikes Award Watchlist

Just in case you needed more things to be excited about.

USA Baseball has released its preseason watchlist for the Golden Spikes Award, and Aggie OF Nick Banks made the cut. As a sophomore in 2015, Banks ranked fourth in the SEC in batting average (.364), fifth in on-base percentage (.450) and sixth in hits (87). No Aggie has ever won this award, but if Banks is able to match his numbers from last year, he should have a good chance to be the first.

For those not familiar with this award, you can think of it as the amateur baseball version of the Heisman Trophy. The preseason watchlist includes 50 players from around the country, including 11 from the SEC. Many young stars in the MLB, such as Bryce Harper, Kris Bryant, Stephen Strasburg and Buster Posey, were recipients of the Golden Spikes Award during their collegiate careers. That's pretty good company.
