Robert Williams named SEC Freshman of the Week

The surging newcomer averaged 12 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game during a breakout week on the West coast

Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Congrats to A&M Freshman Robert Williams, who exploded onto the scene at the DirecTV Wooden Legacy over Thanksgiving break and was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

Check out these efficient stat lines from the true freshman

  • CS Northridge (15 minutes): 11 points; 7 rebounds; 4 blocks; 4/6 FG; 3/3 FT
  • Virginia Tech (21 minutes): 13 points; 9 rebounds; 1 block; 2 steals; 6/11 FG
  • UCLA (23 minutes): 12 points; 4 rebounds; 4 assists; 3 blocks; 4/8 FG; 4/5 FT

Many basketball folk (myself included) thought Williams would contribute mostly through raw athleticism, but he has displayed an impressive all-around game early. That athleticism, though... it’s even better than advertised.

Goodness.

Enjoy this year with Robert Williams, Ags. He might not be around for long.
