Preview/GameThread: Texas A&M vs. USC

It's the first real test of the season for Texas A&M (2-0), as the USC Trojans (2-0) visit Reed Arena in the biggest non-conference home game of the year. We're going to learn a lot about this squad tonight (6:00pm; SECN)

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

This is one of my favorite days of the year.

Every November, we try to form our early Aggie Hoops opinions via Maroon & White games, closed scrimmage reports, exhibition games, and early season cupcakes... but nothing compares to that first game against legitimate opposition. It's fascinating on so many levels. How does the team react? What's the "big game" rotation? Who gets the ball when things get tight? Are the new guys up for the moment? Who fills the leadership gap left by the Seniors? All huge season-defining questions, and all potentially answered this evening.

It's the best non-conference opponent we'll see at Reed Arena all year. If you're want good, big-time live basketball in B/CS, this might be your last chance until January. Get to Reed if you can.

Time: 6:00pm

Location: Reed Arena

TV: SEC Network

Name: USC Trojans

Conference: PAC-12

Preseason Outlook: 7th of 12

Previous results of note: Two blegh cupcake wins with very slow starts. Fell behind 14-3 against Montana in the home opener, and was tied with Omaha with nine minutes remaining. A far cry from the two comfortable cupcake evenings we've seen in Reed Arena

Player to watch: Elijah Stewart - dropped 30 in the opener against Omaha on only twelve shots. Already 16/18 from the stripe this year.

We're home, we're favored by seven, and we're playing a squad that hasn't really found their groove yet. This should be much closer than the first two games, but I fully expect us to win tonight.
