First Glance: Texas A&M Aggies vs. UTSA Roadrunners

BEAT THE HELL OUT OF tu...(sa)!

NCAA Football: Arizona State at Texas-San Antonio Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

What You Need To Know:

  • The Aggies and their two game slide to the State of Mississippi host the UTSA Roadrunners.
  • Texas A&M is currently ranked #23 in the AP Poll.
  • UTSA is unranked and has a 5-5 record; however, the Roadrunners are second in the Conference USA West division.
  • SBNation HQ for UTSA is Underdog Dynasty which covers all of the Group of 5 conference teams.
  • Follow up with UTSA Twitter by using the #birdsup hashtag.

Betting Lines:

  • Texas A&M is currently a -27 point home favorite with an O/U set at 58.5 points.
  • A&M is 4-6 Against the Spread; while UTSA is 4-5-1 Against the Spread.

Historical Notes:

  • UTSA Football, a tradition since 2011. UTSA started off as an FCS Independent before joining the WAC in 2012. In 2013, UTSA became a full member of Conference USA.
  • If UTSA beats Charlotte to end the season, or if it pulls an underdog miracle upset of A&M, then it could be going to its first bowl game in school history.
  • This is the first meeting between the two schools on the football field.
  • Famous UTSA Alumni include Michelle Beadle, AJ Castillo, Deanna Raybourn, and Johan Edfors
  • UTSA does not have a live bird mascot, but does employ Rowdy the Roadrunner. This is unfortunate, because roadrunners are pretty amazing birds and if you ever get to see one take down a lizard or snake, it’s pretty cool to see.

Roadrunners to Watch:

UTSA Starting QB

Backup QB, Jared Johnson took over play calling duties from starting QB Dalton Sturm in the second half of last week’s loss to Louisiana Tech. This was a tight QB battle in the off season with Sturm winning the position to start the season. It is unclear who head coach Frank Wilson will start this Saturday, but it is something to keep an eye on.

Michael Egwuagu SS

Egwuagu is a senior strong safety who returned a blocked field goal last weekend for 82 yards and a touchdown. He scored two touchdowns on returns last season, so is capable of creating opportunities on defense and special teams.
