OFFENSE

Not a bad game at all. The first half was a bit lethargic with only two offensive TDs, but finishing with close to 600 yards means it was a pretty good evening as a whole. QBs took care of the ball pretty well, and were able to distribute the ball a lot of different wide receivers. I love that we get to empty the bench a bit in games like this—seeing Kendall Bussey go 10 for 87 yards was pretty fun to watch. This stable of running backs is pretty darn deep.

Have to mention Christian Kirk here as well. Despite having a relatively quiet night receiving (5 for 36), he had two monstrous punt returns for TDs. Kirk’s had a quiet year, but it was really good to see him show just why he’s an elite special teams player

DEFENSE

New Mexico State’s RB Rose is pretty good, and they finished with a hair under 150 rushing yards. Part of me is kinda concerned about the yards that we gave up, but we were also missing three key starters, so all in all, not a bad performance by the defense.

I was really pleased that coming out of the half we drove downfield quickly on them to put up TDs which we were able to follow up with solid defensive performances to get New Mexico State off the field. Definitely some stuff to clean up (middle of the field being open on QB rushes) but solid evening

OVERALL

It was a good day for A&M. The win is nice, but we had a few undefeated teams (Baylor, Nebraska, West Virginia) drop a game, which certainly helps our playoff hopes. The season sets up really well for us...we’ve got a winnable game next week in Starkville before we take on what should be a challenging Ole Miss team. Good things could be on the horizon for us.
