POST GAME THOUGHTS: ALABAMA BEATS TEXAS A&M

Despite a decent effort early, A&M gets out matched by the crimson tide

This one is tough to take for a multitude of reasons. Let’s just jump into a few quick thoughts:

1) BAMA IS REALLY GOOD

This might be one of the best Bama teams we’ve seen in a very very long time. Their defense is full of killing cyborgs and they are led by a dual threat QB who give Lane Kiffin a ton of options. Jalen Hurts isnt perfect, but he’s really good and really efficient at what he does. Kudos to Alabama. They are an elite football team in every single way

2) WE NEEDED TO BE PERFECT

And we weren’t. Play calling was pretty bad early in the game. Perhaps testing the perimeter was part of the plan to soften up the middle, but we didn’t do anything schematically to make us better or less predictable. Not a great play calling day at all.

Mistakes mistakes mistakes. We led in the second half. Think about that. We were up and had Bama kind of on the ropes by getting them into third and long and we get a stop—-only to be stymied by a really bad roughing the passer play. Follow that up with a bad fumble returned for a TD, lots of drops, and our inability to throw the ball away...and it went from a 1 point lead to a two TD deficit.

We saw bad Trevor today. When things were rolling, his confidence (and thereby the team’s confidence) was high. The second it went bad, you could see the confidence/poise go away. Fumbles, bad throws, etc.

We needed to be perfect today...and we weren’t.

3) THERE IS STILL A LOT LEFT TO PLAY FOR

Listen...Bama is easily the best team in the country. There’s not a ton of shame in losing to them regardless of how bad this feels. But if this loss turns into two losses which turns into three—well that’s what absolutely can’t happen.

Regardless of the scoreboard your Fightin’ Texas Aggies are a really really good football team. We can still finish this season really strong. The schedule sets us up well....couple of winnable games before we take on Ole Miss.

OVERALL

Today was bad. But there’s still a lot of football left to play. This team is still capable of having an excellent season. Time to get back home, regroup, get healthy, watch film, and get our minds right and BTHO new mexico state.
