The last time Texas A&M Football was 6-0

It was 1994, and these things were very real.

Detron Smith

The Aggies are 6-0 heading into a bye week before a trip to Tuscaloosa to take on the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide. We’re a long way from the uncertainty of conference realignment five short years ago. We’re also over 20 years out from the last time the team was 6-0: mid-October of 1994. Here’s what was going on in the world:

  • a crowd of just over 70,000 packed Kyle Field to witness the Ags get to 6-0 with a 41-21 win over Baylor
  • RC Slocum was rocking some badass coaching threads on the sidelines
  • the population of College Station was just over 50,000; today it’s over 108,000
  • Kevin Sumlin was the wide receivers coach at Minnesota
  • #1 NFL Draft Pick Jared Goff was one day old
  • the Dallas Cowboys, on the heels of back-to-back Super Bowls, parted ways with Jimmy Johnson and hired Barry Switzer
  • Florida, Nebraska, and Colorado took turns holding the #1 spot in the Bowl Coalition rankings that year
  • the World Series was cancelled due to strike
  • John Travolta hosted Saturday Night Live that evening, and Seal was the musical guest
  • the Grateful Dead played Madison Square Garden
  • Michael Jackson was married to Lisa Marie Presley
  • Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption had just hit theaters
  • ER and Friends had been airing on TV for less than a month
  • Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love To You” was on the radio every 5 minutes
  • Sony Playstation was the hottest gaming console
  • Netscape 0.9 was launched and was one of the more widespread browsers used for the very few that had the Internet
  • Amazon and Yahoo! were both in their infancy
  • Larry Jackson was out there flying around the field for the Wrecking Crew

What else was going on in 1994?
