YESSIR! 5* 2017 QB Tate Martell Commits to A&M!

Kevin Sumlin lands another blue chip QB to lead your Fightin Texas Aggies.

Kevin Sumlin got a bit of good news tonight as 5* 2017 QB Tate Martell committed to the Aggies. Martell, who hails out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, is ranked by 247.com as the #1 Dual Threat QB in the country and the overall #12 prospect.

Martell picked A&M over offers from USC, Alabama, Michigan, Oregon and others. As a sophomore Martell threw for over 2500 yards and rushed for 433 to lead his team to a 15-0 record. Take a look at his HUDL highlights...spoiler alert: he's pretty good.

Martell's commitment is good for a few reasons. Obviously getting the #1 ranked QB in the country is a good thing--this also adds good depth to our QB roster given that we were likely not to take a QB in 2016. Plus Martell has two 2017 teammates, 5* WR Tyjon Lindsay, and 4* DT Haskell Garrett who could be swayed to make the move from Las Vegas to College Station should their QB end up matriculating here.

The challenge now becomes to hold on to Martell's commitment for the next year and a half. No doubt local schools like USC and Oregon are going to continue to press him for visits...and 2017 is a long way away. It's going to be a dogfight to hold on to him, but getting a head start on the competition doesn't hurt.
