After limping down the stretch to the tune of a 2-5 finish and an NIT second round exit, you could be forgiven for having a.... well, less than stellar outlook for the Fightin' Texas Aggie Basketball program.
We watched the NCAAs without our Aggies for the fourth year running, we watched fellow conference and in-state programs upgrade their coaching situations, and we listened with bated breath as these two facts were used to rumor the demise of our #3 overall incoming recruiting class.
It was looking pretty bleak.
Which is why the last seven days have been a godsend. We found out that recruiting linchpin Avery Johnson Jr. would not follow his father to Alabama, we learned that well-established recruiting closer Rick Stansbury was promoted to Associate Head Coach (presumably to keep Alabama from hiring him), and we learned about two Aggie transfers who would pave the way for the aforementioned recruiting class.
And now we have today's news. The confirmation that First-Team All-SEC guard Danuel House will return for his senior season.
Texas A & M's Danuel House will return to school next season, per release. Aggies should be Top 25 good in 15-16.— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) April 14, 2015
House (who averaged 14.8 PPG) led the charge to NCAA consideration, and you'd be hard pressed to find a reporter, local or otherwise, who didn't have the Aggies in the tournament prior to his injury.
This tentatively puts our ten-man rotation as follows, with rumors of a high-impact transfer still swirling
- Alex Caruso, G
- Danuel House, G
- Jalen Jones, F
Incoming recruiting class
- Tyler Davis, C
- Elijah Thomas, F/C
- Admon Gilder, G
- DJ Hogg, G/F
- Alex Robinson, G
- Peyton Allen, G
- Tavario Miller, F
My friends... that is a deep, deep team. And again, we might not be done adding pieces.
This program is locked and loaded for a serious run next year.
I can't wait.
