Senior Spotlights: Derel Walker #11

A look back at one of the most productive members of the 2013 team.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Derel Walker came to us through Trinity Valley Community College, and in 2012 saw action in the final 12 games, totaling 8 grabs for 85 yards on the year. But it was 2013 where Walker really made an impact. With Mike Evans on one side and Malcome Kennedy making clutch grabs on the other, Walker was able to find his niche and explode onto the scene. He finished the year with 51 grabs (3rd on the team) for 818 yards (2nd on the team) and five touchdowns, including a 44 yard bomb in the Chik-fil-A Bowl that would ultimately be Johnny Manziel's last TD pass as an Aggie.

Walker worked out for NFL scouts last week at A&M's Pro Day, and probably helped himself with impressive numbers in the broad jump and vertical leap. He's rated as the #54 wide receiver out of 429 by nfldraftscout.com, so it's not out of the question for him to possibly sign somewhere as an undrafted free agent somewhere and get a look.

It would be hard to ask for a JuCo player to do more for a team than Walker did for us in 2013. Thanks for the effort, Derel, and best of luck in the future. Gig 'em.
