In May of 2012 I was out in Birmingham after the wedding of a good friend. I had a few hours to kill today before my flight home, so I decided to hit the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. If you know anything about Birmingham, you know that the SEC offices are across the street.
The museum visit was great, and well worth the time if you are in the area and want to stop by. I walked out and decided to take a photo of the entrance to the SEC offices when a staff member saw me wearing a Texas A&M polo.
She came and opened the door for me and asked if I wanted to come in and see all of the A&M flags and helmets they had set up for our entrance into the conference of champions a few weeks later. [It's worth noting that A&M did not officially join the SEC until July 1, 2012.]
So very cool. I saw the new Texas A&M flag hanging up in the foyer, a few great SEC history displays, and then was told "go ahead and walk up the stairs. You'll like what you see."
I walked up and saw a table with both the A&M and Mizzou helmets set up. Then I see Mike Slive walk by from one meeting to another in front of me. It was amazing to see the most powerful man in college football right there. He didn't notice me, but let's be honest...I was in the presence of greatness that day.
Here are a few pictures:
(Oh, and by the way...Birmingham is beautiful. And make sure to stop by Full Moon BBQ if you visit. It's a must-have every time I'm there. Save room for the carrot cake.)

Oh, and for the record...yeah, we celebrated SECmas the right way at midnight on July 1, 2012:
