The Maxwell Award goes to college football's best player or Manti Te'o. Even though Johnny Manziel was snubbed last year, we all kind of forgot because he won that other trophy. There are 76 players and a bunch of QBs on this year's watch list so you'll see names like David Ash and Blake Bell and quickly discount the list. Still, it is impressive to have three players named. Eyeballing the list I only see Alabama with more players (4) than Texas A&M.
Two other Aggie offensive players join redshirt sophomore sensation Johnny Manziel on the watch list. Wide receiver Mike Evans is one of seven WRs listed. The 6'5" sophomore hauled in 82 receptions for over 1100 yards in his freshman season. His miraculous catch to keep A&M alive at Ole Miss was an all-time great play in Aggie history. What will a breakout year for Mike Evans look like in 2013? Can Evans go for 10+ TDs and over 1200 yards?
Senior Jake Matthews is one of three offensive linemen named to the Maxwell Award watch list this year. This is the first year that members of the OL have been recognized by the Maxwell panel. Matthews will slide over from right tackle to left tackle this season after Outland Trophy winner Luke Joeckel was taken second in the NFL Draft.
David Ash, y'all.
